The international break isn’t the best thing in the world, and we promise that we’re going to stop going on about it sooner rather than later. A lot of fans just aren’t that interested in what their nation is going to do unless it’s at a major international tournament, and even then they can be pretty fickle after one or two bad results. Nonetheless, despite being quite negative about the whole process ourselves, we’re choosing to look on the positive side of things – especially in the wake of a few really important performances from Arsenal stars.
A series of important games went down throughout the world of football in the last few days, featuring two of (arguably) the most important players within the Arsenal ranks. That sounds like an exaggeration and that’s probably because it is, and we’re only highlighting them because we feel like they don’t get enough credit from the masses of Arsenal supporters out there. Everyone can appreciate how good they are, but they never seem to vocalise it – and we want to try and change that.
We may not succeed, but hopefully a few of you out there start recognising the greatness of these guys.
Granit has always been viewed as quite an underrated star in the realms of European football, but given the age and the fact that he still has much more time to grow, we’d still say he’s a star in the making. Case and point: he was instrumental in helping to turn the fortunes of the Swiss around last week, as he helped to guide them towards a stunning 5-2 win over Belgium that helped to book their ticket to the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.
Alex Iwobi has just burst into life this season in the most unlikely of ways, and we’re all in for it. In Nigeria’s game against South Africa at the weekend they knew that they were just one game away from securing qualification to the 2019 African Cup of Nations, and Iwobi was key in helping to push them over that line towards a 1-1 draw with the hosts. He cares about that national team as he was able to prove over the summer at the World Cup, and it’s a pretty great thing to see.
Which of these two players will be more important throughout the course of the season?
