Arsenal fan Jack Robinson from St Louis, Missouri, USA, flew over to the UK with his wife to watch Arsenal play Wolverhampton Wanderers today (Tuesday), on a trip he had arranged six months ago as part of their 10 year wedding anniversary celebrations, only to discover that the match has been postponed.
“This one hurts so bad,” Robinson tweeted. “I have had this planned and booked for well over 6 months, first the summer tour was cancelled on me now this game, lost for words, sick, its me and my wife’s 10-year anniversary, wanted to show her something special something she can remember forever.”
Seeing this post, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka reacted by reaching out to Robinson via Instagram.
“Hi Jack, I just got home from the game and I have seen your tweets that you and your wife were flying over from America for our game against Wolves,” the Swiss international wrote, and went on to invite the fan to the Manchester City match on January 1st instead.
“I could see you were upset about the game being cancelled as you had waited a long time to fly over to watch us. If you are still in London on the 1st Arsenal vs Manchester City game as my guest to thank you for your dedication to Arsenal. Would that be good for you?”
It’s obviously a beautiful gesture from the Arsenal midfielder, and it’s bound to make the trip Robinson has taken his wife on worth while to both of them.
“Words can’t express how I feel at this time, you reaching out to us… You don’t understand what this means,” Robinson responded.
After facing the Premier League leaders, Arsenal will play the double header against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semifinals, with the third round of the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest squeezed in between.
