This weekend is, of course, the north London derby, as Arsenal visit north London rivals Tottenham in a massive Premier League clash.
As always there has been combined teams and talk of who would get into whose team. However, Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Paul Merson reckons the only Arsenal player who would get into the Tottenham team is forward Alexis Sanchez.
In all honesty, it is hard to agree with Merse on this one. He can be an idiot at times, but I think he is pretty accurate in his assessment of this: Sanchez is probably the only Gunners player who would get in the Spurs team.
Sign of the directions the clubs are taking
The fact that only one Arsenal player would get into the Tottenham team just illustrates that the clubs are moving in different directions. I hate to say it but Tottenham have become a very good football team in the last few years.
They have a bright young boss, who has assembled a team that has just the right mix of youth and experience.
Arsenal on the other hand, despite their form improving of late, have struggled this season. The Gunners are not exactly blessed with outstanding quality in any particular area of the pitch. For example, would you take Hector Bellerin over Kyle Walker? Not on current form, despite the Spaniard seemingly having far more potential than his older Tottenham counterpart.
Maybe, Gunners captain, Laurent Koscielny would challenge for a centre-back spot, but even then Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have been outstanding this season.
Hard to take for Gunners fans
The current situation is hard to take for Gunners fans. Spurs have not spent big to strengthen their team but bought well and boss Mauricio Pochettino has given the team an identity.
At the moment Arsenal fans could not say that same about their veteran boss Arsene Wenger. His recent signings have struggled and he has now only after 20 years in charge he actually attempted to change his tactics.
Wenger has admitted that Tottenham probably go into Sunday’s derby as favourites. On form and quality, they should do as well.
However, Arsenal have to keep the positive spirit of the last few results and somehow pull off a result at White Hart Lane. Tottenham have only beaten the Gunners in one of the last nine meetings, so the omens are not good for a home win.
