The Jack Wilshere saga has taken more twists and turns than we’d care to admit, and along the way, many fans have become quite bitter towards the whole thing. While many Arsenal supporters still want to see the Englishman pulling on the red and white strip next season, it almost feels like there’s a certain level of resignation to the fact that he may well be leaving the club. As we now know courtesy of the latest update, it seems as if that fear is going to become a reality over the course of the next few weeks.
When Unai Emery first came into the club it seemed as if he was a man on a mission in more ways than one. He seemed to be hell-bent on resolving many of the club’s lingering issues prior to the World Cup even getting underway, and while he certainly made some progress, the Wilshere dilemma was one that remained up in the air.
That didn’t matter too much given that Wilshere wasn’t selected to be a part of the England squad this year, meaning that there was no real overlap in terms of distractions. However, we’re now left to wonder when this whole thing is going to come to an end. Sooner rather than later all of Arsenal’s World Cup representatives are going to return, and while the whole squad doesn’t stay up at night wondering whether or not Wilshere is going to re-sign, it’s something that needs to be dealt with so that Emery can focus on moving ahead with preparations for next season.
If we’re still talking about this when August rolls around, which isn’t that far away, then there’s a problem. It already seems like we’re moving towards the back-end of it anyway, so there’s no real reason for it to be dragged out anymore. Wilshere needs to know where his football future lies, and Arsenal need to figure out who is going to be starting in central midfield for them once they kick off their campaign against Manchester City.
This may sound odd to some people given that we’re talking about someone’s entire future, but there comes a time when enough is enough. Whether or not it’s already been decided behind the scenes or not, that doesn’t matter – just let the world know where Wilshere is going, and we can all move on.
Are you looking forward to the Wilshere saga coming to an end?
