Wenger should stop talking about regrets

Posted on May 17, 2018 by Harry Kettle

It’s always tough to admit when you’re in the wrong, and it’s even tougher to admit when you’ve missed an opportunity. As we’ve seen over the last few years, Arsene Wenger isn’t shy when it comes to talking about some of his mistakes from years gone by – and while we appreciate that in regards to Arsenal’s exploits on the pitch, it isn’t really all too helpful when it comes to players that he wishes he would’ve signed.

The club have had some world class stars across the Frenchman’s reign as manager, but as it turns out, there are some headline-making names that also could’ve been on the books at the Emirates. As reported by The Independent, one such player is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The obvious player (that we missed out on) that comes to mind is (Cristiano) Ronaldo,” he admitted. “He was here with his mother and we were very close. Then Man United came in and they had Carlos Queiroz at the time, who was their coach. United played against Sporting Lisbon and Ronaldo was outstanding and they signed him.

“You could imagine at the time what it would have been like to have Thierry Henry and Ronaldo together… That would certainly have changed a little bit the history of my stay here as well.”

While we’ve always been taught to believe that honesty is the best policy, perhaps it’s better for Arsene to leave well enough alone. His time as Arsenal manager has come to an end, and now, we need to be looking ahead towards the future. Dwelling on players that may or may not have been brought into the fold is pointless, especially now that Wenger has no real role at the club – that we know of, obviously.

One major issue that has been following Arsenal around is their inability to be ruthless when given the chance to in the transfer window. They’ve allowed other teams around them to bully them out of deals in favour of themselves, and whoever replaces Wenger needs to use that as motivation. If the Gunners are going to get back to the heights they were once at, then stamping their authority in the summer and January windows is going to be vital.

Do you believe Wenger’s Ronaldo claims?

It was because wenger was Arsenal manager that dragged his feet in the transfer market and his outdated bliefs that no player worth £12 m that was the price of Ronaldo that time and ferguson jumped on the chance and signed Ronaldo immediately to Manchester United. This was one case among 15 world class players among them Messi Wenger was reluctant to sign believing that Arsenal is not a big Club like Manchester United < Barcelona , Chelsea and Real Madrdid and sauid in words that they are the league of their own.All along Wenger's philosophy is to save money to please the Shareholders and memmbers of the Arsenal board to keep his job as long as possible and he has succeeded in doing that. Now he shouldn't pretend that he regrets that he has not signed Ronaldo and Nessi.
