Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is expected to sign a new deal with the Gunners before heading off to the World Cup as a pundit for French television. With the Gunners expected to strengthen their squad this summer, the veteran French boss will be on the lookout for talent in Brazil. Here are a few players he may be monitoring:
Karim Benzema (Real Madrid and France)
With the striking position a priority for the Gunners this summer, Benzema looks to now be a viable transfer target this summer, after previous attempts to lure the Spanish giants into selling the France international have failed.
Benzema has just a year left on his contract and has been linked with a £30million move to the Emirates Stadium. The striker is 4/1 to be an Arsenal player by the time the summer transfer window closes.
Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich and Croatia)
Croatian international striker Mario Mandzukic has fallen out-of-favour at Bayern and with the summer arrival of Robert Lewandowski, Mandzukic is likely to leave Munich this summer. The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the striker.
Mandzukic is Bayern’s top scorer with 23 goals this season in all competitions, despite the fact that he has not always been a regular starter for Die Bayern.
Serge Aurier (Toulouse and Ivory Coast)
The 21-year-old defender has been heavily linked with a £7million move to north London. He is highly-rated and has enjoyed a very good campaign in Ligue One with Toulouse, as the versatile star scored six goals and created as many for his French club.
Aurier is a regular for the Ivory Coast national side and should have the chance to impress Wenger this summer in Brazil.
James Milner (Manchester City and England)
The versatile England international is not a regular for club or country, but he offers enthusiasm and hard work. Contrary to popular belief he is not completely lacking in technical ability. However, some would argue that he is nowhere near the standard of the midfielders currently in the Gunners squad.
Milner would offer the Gunners versatility and professionalism. He may not be regarded as a marquee signing, but he would not represent a terrible one either.
Hopefully Arsene Wenger will be able to strengthen his Arsenal squad this summer. Whether those players come from the World Cup remains to be seen. The Frenchman needs to bring in true quality this summer though if the Gunners are to challenge for the Premier League title in new campaign.
