Wenger accused of not showing Lacazette respect

Posted on May 17, 2018 by Harry Kettle

While the season may be over with the World Cup still being a few weeks away, there’s still plenty to discuss in the world of Arsenal Football Club. With players set to come and players set to leave, it’s always interesting to see some of the media’s biggest reactions in the wake of the campaign coming to an end. In this instance, as reported by Metro, we’re looking into some comments made recently by Charlie Nicholas.

The former Arsenal star had some harsh words for Arsene Wenger, claiming that he hasn’t been showing Alexandre Lacazette enough respect.

“I think a lack of respect was shown to Alexandre Lacazette by dropping him for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they have proved they are better together.”

We’re just going to come right out and say it: Charlie Nicholas is being a fool, here. He’s trying to worm his way into the headlines by any means necessary, and in some ways, he’s accomplished that goal with sites like ours covering his remarks. Trust us, we won’t make the same mistake again, but in this case, we felt the need to say something.

Nicholas was a handy player back in the day, and over the last few years, he’s been an enjoyable personality on Soccer Saturday. Note: we didn’t say he has been an enjoyable pundit, we said ‘personality’. That’s because all he’s really been good for as of late has been yelling ‘GOAL!’ in a high-pitched voice while Jeff Stelling carries the actual body of the show.

The whole point of figuring out which strike-force works best for your team is adjusting the squad and working out which combination is most effective. As we’ve seen so far, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a more consistent threat in front of goal than Lacazette – and that’s not something that should be seen as ‘taboo’.

When they’re together they do work well, and it wasn’t insulting or disrespectful of Wenger to drop him at all. He was in the last few weeks of his tenure as Arsenal manager, and he wanted to try and figure out the best way forward heading into next season where a new man would take the reigns.

Apparently, Charlie Nicholas isn’t able to comprehend something like that, which is odd, given just how long he’s been in this game.

Do you agree with Charlie Nicholas?

Charlie’s right. I feel Wenger had a very much “I don’t like your face so you’re not playing” attitude, irrespective of whether they would be beneficial to the team or not.
