Watford in Kolasinac loan talks

Posted on December 24, 2021 by Veselin Trajkovic

Arsenal and Watford are currently discussing the possibility of Sead Kolasinac joining going to the Vicarage for the second half of the 2021-22 season, according to the Watford Observer.

Apparently, the talks aren’t very close to being completed at this point, and the stumbling block which the two clubs are trying to work through is the Bosnian’s wages, too hefty for the standards at Watford. Therefore, the Hornets would like the obligation of paying them out to be shared between them and the Gunners. Providing the deal works out well for both Watford and Kolasinac, the loan could lead to a permanent deal for free when the left-back’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, though he would have to agree to earn considerably less in that case.

And if no agreement is reached, Watford are prepared to turn to other targets, with Hibernian’s Josh Doig being considered, as well as Borna Barisic of Rangers. Manager Claudio Ranieri wants a defender, preferably a left-back, brought in as soon as possible, with Adam Masina set to represent Morocco at the African Cup of Nations and former Tottenham Hotspur man Danny Rose the only designated player in the role remaining at the club. And let’s face it, nobody wants Danny Rose as their only left-back, do they?

Kolasinac has only played four times for Arsenal this season, twice in the Premier League, starting only the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City. He’s also played twice in the Carabao Cup, but given that it’s Liverpool in the semis and, if the Gunners go through, Chelsea or Spurs in the final, he’s not likely to play again even in that competition. With Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares both firmly ahead of him in the pecking order, it seems his time at the club has truly come to an end.
