According to German media outlet Kicker, former Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel has turned down the overtures of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to replace Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger this summer.
Kicker claims they have inside information on the move, which if true could mean a big change at Arsenal. The report suggests that Tuchel is in negotiations with officials over joining the north London club. The German boss was previously linked with a move to Arsenal last summer, only for Wenger to sign a two-year deal.
The future of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is, of course, the subject of speculation. The veteran French boss will have a year of a two-year contract remaining this summer. However, the clubs poor domestic campaign could lead to Wenger’s exit this summer.
A logical appointment
The appointment of Tuchel would be a logical one for the north London club. Tuchel is one of the most highly-rated young head coaches in world football after impressing at Dortmund.
The style of play his team produces is attacking and expansive, the sort of style that Wenger instilled in his early days as Arsenal boss. Tuchel seems like an ideal candidate to revive Arsenal and turn the clubs fortunes around. He is young, progressive and his ideology fits in well with the north London club.
Arsenal has some serious competition
It is reported that Tuchel wants to manage in a foreign league next season. He will not be short of offers, as reportedly big-spending French giants PSG and Chelsea are hoping to capture the German’s signature this summer too.
In fact, a rival publication in Germany to Kicker claims that Tuchel is more likely to head to PSG to replace current boss Unai Emery this summer. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is also under major pressure at Stamford Bridge. Both clubs could offer the German big resources and chances to win big trophies.
Gunners need to act fast
If the Arsenal hierarchy feels that Thomas Tuchel is the man to lead the club back to former glories they have to act quickly to sign him before the other interested clubs agree on a deal with the German boss.
For many fans, Wenger’s spell at the north London club should have ended years ago. If the Gunners hierarchy are serious about moving forward then they need to appoint a progressive head coach, who can excite the fans and more importantly the players. If would be a shame if the Gunners miss out on a boss who could very well make the improvements the team desperately needs.
