Even the most optimistic of Arsenal fans will be forced to admit that last season’s Premier League campaign simply wasn’t good enough. The Gunners slipped down into eighth place and stayed there after all 38 games were played. Still, they did manage to win the FA Cup to ensure that they will be playing European football next season, but that doesn’t solve the issue surrounding the league.
They need to do everything they can to push back into that top four, because even if they do win the Europa League, that isn’t going to gloss over another failure to reach that oh so special fourth place marker. They haven’t finished up there since back in 2016 when they came 2nd, but under Arteta, you do get the sense that fans believe in the club’s ability to do some special.
There’s no special point to this post other than this: if Arsenal don’t finish in the top four this season, we’re not so sure there are any excuses. United, Leicester and Tottenham don’t come across as teams that are capable of a sustained challenge, whereas Arsenal are really starting to build some momentum for themselves.
Can Arsenal make a real push for the top four?
