Arsenal have had a mixed start to their Premier League campaign and while that does deserve a lot of attention, the focus will be shifting in the next few days as the Gunners prepare for the return of the UEFA Europa League. This is a competition they’ve come painfully close to winning in the last few years and while many fans wanted to see them avoid competing in it this time around, they will indeed be entering into it once again.
This is a trophy that Arsenal have a good chance of winning and that alone should be enough motivation for Mikel Arteta as he goes in search of his third piece of silverware with the club. It could also mark their entry into the UEFA Champions League in case they fail to qualify courtesy of the top four and if that isn’t enough of an incentive, we’re not sure what is.
Plus, fringe stars could be used in the Europa League to get some game time – and that usually leads to a few gems being discovered.
The fixture schedule was always going to be difficult in this reduced season and that’s definitely going to be the case when you factor in the addition of the Europa League. Arsenal fans want to see their club focus on the Premier League but if they have to endure more heartbreak in the Europa after playing so many games just to get to the latter stages of the competition, people aren’t going to be happy.
