Arsenal were heavily linked with Yves Bissouma of Brighton and Hove Albion, though admittedly, the links grew hottest at a time when Granit Xhaka appeared likely to leave the Emirates and join AS Roma. Apart from the Gunners, Liverpool were said to be interested in the Mali international as well, apparently seeing him as a good candidate to replace Paris Saint-Germain-bound Georginio Wijnaldum.

Bissouma didn’t move anywhere in the end, and speaking to Brighton’s official website, he said he probably didn’t leave the Amex because the time wasn’t right. Nonetheless, he still dreams of playing in the Champions League and winning titles, and as things stand at the moment, that dream seems likely to push a potential Arsenal transfer further from reality than ever.

Ever since reports claiming Dani Ceballos would leave Arsenal and return to Real Madrid when his loan deal expires, rumours linking the Gunners with what seems like every central midfielder out there have been popping up like mushrooms after rain.┬áRangers’ Glen Kamara has featured in many of them, and he’s recently been joined on the back pages by Yves Bissouma and Sander Berge.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes the Gunners should move to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer, insisting the Seagulls midfielder would represent an upgrade on Granit Xhaka.

Campbell came through the ranks at the Arsenal Academy and earned first-team promotion in 1987. He had loan spells with Leyton Orient and Leicester City before returning to the club on the last day of 1989 to establish himself fully in the team. Throughout his time in North London, he made a total of 161 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, scoring 40 goals. He left to join Nottingham Forest in the summer of 1994, and went on to play Turkish club Trabzonspor, Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City. He retired from playing in 2007.
