Arsenal have completed four signings so far this summer. The latest one was arguably the most important one, as Gabriel Jesus made his way over from Manchester City to ease the obvious problems regarding the central attacking role. The arrival of the Brazilian striker followed those of winger Marquinhos, midfielder Fabio Vieira and goalkeeper Matt Turner, but the club are yet to strengthen their defensive ranks apart from the return of William Saliba from Olympique Marseille loan, as well as to add a top-level central midfielder to help organizing play from deep.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, manager Mikel Arteta is trying to get the club to make a £25 million opening bid for the services of Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans. Leicester are, however, likely to ask for significantly more than that amount, with manager Brendan Rodgers set to reinvest the money in new signings.

The 25-year-old midfielder is about to enter the final 12 months of contract with Leicester, and he has reportedly decided against signing a new deal, having his heart set on taking the next step in his career. Arteta has apparently put Tielemans at the top of his summer wish list after performing a series of background checks on him. Arsenal’s head of UK scouting James Ellis was at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, watching on as Leicester beat Southampton by 4-1.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal have opened talks with Mohamed Elneny over a new contract and are seriously interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City this summer. If these plans both prove fruitful, the Gunners should have a really respectable midfield setup, one worthy of a team playing in the Champions League.

That, however, is the obvious condition for Tielemans to consider moving to the Emirates, and Arsenal are one win away from securing that fourth place after beating Leeds United on Sunday, while Tottenham Hotspur played out a draw at Anfield against Liverpool a day before. That is providing, of course, that win comes at the home of the arch-rivals in the North London Derby on Thursday.
