Arsenal to compete for Ruben Neves 0

Posted on April 11, 2022 by Veselin Trajkovic

According to a latest report coming from Sky Sports, Arsenal have put the name of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves at the very top of their list for the upcoming transfer window. One has to assume it means the top of the list when it comes to midfielders, ahead of the likes of Arthur Melo of Juventus in whom the Gunners still hold an interest; after all, the absolute priority this summer will surely be a new striker.

Like any other club serious about being competitive at top level, Arsenal are already preparing for the summer transfer window and drafting potential targets according to the assessments of what the squad needs to become stronger. According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners have set signing two strikers and a midfielder as their top priority, with a left-sided centre-back and a right back slightly lower on the wish list.

Arteta demands PGMOL explanation after fourth red card in 2022 0

Gabriel Martinelli was sent off in a bizarre way in the 69th minute of Arsenal’s 0-1 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday. The Brazilian forward first tried to prevent a quick throw-in by pushing Daniel Podence, and followed that up with a tactical foul on Chiquinho. Referee Michael Oliver played advantage on the first offence, but then chose to hand two separate bookings and sent Martinelli off.

The referee could’ve perhaps let the young forward off with one yellow card and a stern talking-to, but that would have been just that – letting off. Oliver certainly acted within his rights and strictly according to the rules of the game.

No transfer window is ever a dull affair when it comes to stories popping up like mushrooms in a forest after a long rain, some from relatively respectable sources, others less so. An interesting one has popped up in Italy today (Thursday).

Corriere dello Sport are reporting that Jose Mourinho still wants Granit Xhaka in his team, and that having failed to sign him last summer, Roma are preparing a second offensive to try and tempt the Swiss international to swap North London for the Italian capital.

Arsenal interested in Ruben Neves 0

Arsenal are interested in signing Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, according to Tim Spiers of The Athletic.

The Gunners are believed to be big admirers of the 24-year-old midfielder, who joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 for a reported fee of around £16 million. His market value has certainly risen significantly since then, but Wolves are apparently in a situation where they have to sell star players in order to make big signings. The recent injuries to striker Raul Jimenez and winger Pedro Neto mean there probably won’t be suitors willing to fork out a large amount on either, which leaves either Neves or Adama Traore as potential candidates for departure from the Molineux this summer. The Portuguese’s contract runs for two more years and no cut-price deal is likely to be struck.

While the official team news when it comes to who will start tonight’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers won’t be released until 6.15pm, Arsenal.com has provided fans with an update with regards to some players who are currently out through injury or suspension.

Many of them weren’t expected to make it back in time for the visit of Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, but it’s important to keep track of things like this as we move into what can only be described as the most hectic, and probably the most challenging, period of the year.

Arsenal reject Wolves opening bid for Maitland-Niles 0

Posted on August 26, 2020 by Veselin Trajkovic

Arsenal have rejected a bid of £15 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to several sources.

The 22-year-old is contracted to Arsenal for three more years, but his services are apparently deemed surplus to requirements by head coach Mikel Arteta. The club are consequently open to offers as they seek to raise funds for further incoming transfers, following the arrival of 32-year-old winger Willian from Chelsea on a free transfer. Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes is reportedly set to come in as well, for a fee set at €30m (£27m). Arsenal’s reported desire to sign midfielders Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid or Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona will likely depend on the willingness of either club to accept the services of Matteo Guendouzi as part of the deal.

Wolves close in on Maitland-Niles signing 0

The summer transfer window has already been pretty hectic with clubs up and down the Premier League bringing players in and selling players out in equal measure. Arsenal have been no different, and while there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the prospects that Mikel Arteta wants to bring into the fold at the Emirates, you also have to question some of his outgoings.

One of the biggest, allegedly, is going to be Ainsley Maitland-Niles. At the age of just 22, the youngster has been heavily linked with a move to fellow top flight club Wolverhampton Wanderers. It doesn’t appear as if the deal has been signed, sealed and delivered just yet, but Nuno Espirito Santo does seem to be closing in on his man.
