In the midst of the hustle and bustle following Tottenham Hotspur’s loss to Juventus, it was easy to miss some of the comments made by Wojciech Szczesny.

The Juve keeper, who spent many years on the books at the Emirates, had some fascinating things to say to The Guardian regarding the support of the North London club in the wake of The Old Lady progressing to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

“There were a couple [of Tottenham] fans – very vocal – next to my bench, who went missing after the 80th minute, so yeah, I enjoyed it. Plus winning at Wembley is always special.”

Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could be finally set to leave Arsenal in a £10m deal that will see him join Italian champions Juventus, according to the Guardian. Talks are reported to be at an advanced stage and Szczesny is now expected to complete a move to Turin.

The Polish international will now likely be a backup to veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, whose contract with the Bianconeri expires next summer. The 27-year-old will then hope to become the number one with the Italian giants, although Buffon has not stated he will retire next summer.

According to the Sun, Arsenal have raised Wojciech Szczesny’s asking price from £13m to £20m after seeing Sunderland sell Jordan Pickford for £30m to Everton this summer. Juventus are keen on the Arsenal goalkeeper to be Gianluigi Buffon’s understudy but made a bid of £5m that was quickly knocked back.

The Serie A champions are expected to make an improved offer with the Polish international reportedly attracting interest from a number of other clubs in the Italian top-flight. Szczesny has become one of the best goalkeepers in Europe after two successful seasons on loan with AS Roma, and he finds himself the subject of interest as a result.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal could seal the £11million signing of Chelsea ‘keeper Petr Cech by the end of next week. The Czech Republic international is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in search of first team football.

Cech is believed to be keen on a move to north London, as it will mean staying in the English capital and not unsettling his family.


Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has always professed his admiration for Cech, despite dropping Cech in favour of talented young Belgian Thibaut Courtois last season. The Portuguese boss is believed to be keen on keeping the 33-year-old at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal claimed a 2-1 victory over QPR at the Emirates Stadium on Boxing Day, despite French striker Olivier Giroud being sent-off early in the second half.

The Gunners had a golden opportunity to take the lead on nine minutes, as Alexis Sanchez was brought down in the penalty area by Hoops full-back Armand Traore. The Chilean picked himself up and took the spot kick, only for Robert Green to guess right and save his penalty to the left.

Arsenal came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with fellow top four side Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

The visitors made a bright start to the contest and on ten minutes had the first effort on goal. Spanish winger Jesus Navas fired well wide and high from the edge of the penalty area. The Gunners had a claim for a penalty turned down on 11 minutes.

Tomas Rosicky tumbled in the Manchester City box under a challenge from Pablo Zabaleta. However, referee Mike Dean waved away appeals for a spot-kick. On 17 minutes City midfielder Samir Nasri saw an effort palmed down by Wojciech Szczesny.

Arsenal and Everton drew 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium, in what turned out to be a very entertaining contest. The draw leaves the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League and the Toffees one point off the top four.

The visitors made a brighter start to the game. On five minutes Toffees winger Kevin Mirallas fired in a tempting cross, which striker Romelu Lukaku could not get onto. The Gunners looked to attack two minutes later as Laurent Koscielny’s throughout was cut-out by Mirallas.
