Willian wanted to leave Arsenal after three months 0

Posted on December 21, 2021 by Veselin Trajkovic

Brazilian winger Willian joined Arsenal as a free agent from Chelsea in the summer of 2020. Having failed to get a contract from the Blues long enough for his liking, he agreed a three-year deal with the Gunners. However, he left after only one year, and now he’s revealed he actually wanted to leave only three months into his spell at the Emirates.

Much was expected from a player who had won everything English football has to offer during his time at Chelsea, but once he put on the Arsenal shirt, he failed to reproduce the kind of contribution which had made him a proper Premier League star.

According to multiple sources, Willian has reached an agreement with Corinthians and is not set to join the Brazilian side as a free agent, with Arsenal more than happy to cut him loose without compensation two years before his contract would have expired.

The experienced winger arrived to the Emirates from Chelsea last year as a player of notable pedigree and a reputation of a proven winner. He had won the Premier League title twice at Stamford Bridge, along with one FA Cup and one League Cup. He was also named Chelse’s Player of the Year twice, in 2015-16 and 2017-18. Overall, he had spent seven years there, scoring 63 goals along with 62 assists in 339 games in all competitions.

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Fiorentina about the proposed transfer of Lucas Torreira, according to multiple sources.

The 25-year-old joined the Gunners in 2018 from Sampdoria, and though he did play an important role in the team under Unai Emery, he never had a proper place in the plans of Mikel Arteta, even though his contract at the Emirates has two years left to run. He spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, and it seems another temporary move is now very close.

It’s been a busy transfer window for Arsenal as the stories about a squad overhaul persist into August, the very month when the Premier League restarts. The club have completed three signings so far, left-back Nuno Tavares, midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and centre-back Ben White, and by all accounts, they’re working on getting a couple more in before they take on newly promoted Brentford in the opening round.

But in order to secure the funds necessary to go through with their plans, they will have to get a few outgoing deals done as well. According to the Express, they’re looking at seven players to help them in that aspect.

Willian keen on Chelsea return 0

Willian joined Arsenal from Chelsea as a free agent last summer. The Blues reportedly worked very hard to extend his contract but refused to offer him a three-year deal, complying with their well-documented policy of being extra careful with long-term contracts for players over 30.

The addition of Willian to Mikel Arteta’s ranks for free seemed like a shrewd move at the time – a proven player of vast Premier League, Champions League and international experience, one off whom younger attackers could potentially pick up a few tricks, but who could also give direct, notable contribution on the pitch. However, things have turned out quite differently, and according to Sky Sports, the 32-year-old winger is being placed back on the market and keen to return to Stamford Bridge only a year after leaving it.

A few days ago, reports broke claiming David Luiz and Arsenal have agreed to part ways this summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Willian is likely to be on his way out as well.

Luiz’s contract is about to expire and the club haven’t offered him a new one, and as revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Brazilian defender has made it clear he wouldn’t accept it even if they did.

Willian joins calls for action over online abuse 0

Arsenal winger Willian has joined the voices of those demanding decisive action against online racial abuse, pointing towards football authorities and social media companies as the responsible ones, those who can and should do more than they have done so far to protect the victims of these atrocities and punish the culprits.

“We as players, we cannot do a lot,” he said. “We do what we can do. We report it. We share it with you guys (the press) and we speak about that, but we want action. I think we have to try to find a way to stop it because it is difficult when people say horrible words about you, about your family, that’s not good.

Arsenal, as the FA Cup winners, are set to face Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield on Saturday, and head coach Mikel Arteta spoke to the press ahead of the match, providing some updates on the likes of Willian, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and others.

First of all, the boss was asked about Willian adapting to new surroundings. The Brazilian winger will certainly need some time to absorb all the new stuff around him, but he undoubtedly possesses the right qualities to make it as an Arsenal player and help the team going forward. The coach is obviously impressed with the attitude of the 32-year-old, who, having won a lot in his career, is still hungry for more.

After his switch to Arsenal from rivals Chelsea was confirmed, Brazilian star Willian spoke with the club about the move as he prepares for the next chapter in his career.

“[I like] the way they play, everything is amazing – the stadium, and I think that with Arteta, Arsenal have a great opportunity to fight again for titles in the Premier League and in Europe so I’m very happy because of that,” Willian told Arenal Digital.

“I’m excited to start. I can’t wait to go on the pitch and do my thing to help my team-mates and to help this club to shine again. That’s what I want.
