Barcelona linked with Theo Walcott move 0

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, reigning European and Spanish champions Barcelona are considering a sensational move to sign Arsenal and England forward Theo Walcott.

The Catalan giants are currently in the midst of a transfer embargo which expires in January and have a list of potential transfer targets. It is believed that Walcott is on that list and Luis Enrique could be looking to add the former-Southampton player to their squad.

Walcott was enjoying a decent, if not unspectacular run in the Arsenal first team prior to picking-up a calf injury last week in the 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday. He will be sidelined to after the next international break.

Arsenal’s defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup was not only disappointing for the manner of their elimination, but also for the missed opportunity in the competition.

The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United were both knocked out of the Capital One Cup at the fourth round stage this week which meant Arsenal would have had less competition to avoid in the quarter-finals had they beaten Sheffield Wednesday, but now it’s yet another season where manager Arsene Wenger falls short in the League Cup.

Injuries more important to Arsenal than cup exit 0

Arsenal suffered a surprise 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. The performance was worrying, but what might be even more worrying is the fact that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott both picked-up first half injuries.

Oxlade-Chamberlain picked-up a hamstring injury early on at Hillsborough, while Walcott suffered a calf injury following replacing his England team-mate. The extent of both injuries has yet to be established, but both players could miss Saturday’s visit to Swansea in the Premier League.

Arsenal suffered a double injury blow against Sheffield Wednesday in last night’s Capital One Cup clash, with striker Theo Walcott (calf) and midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) both coming off in the first-half of the Gunners’ defeat to the Owls. Elimination from the domestic cup was bad enough for manager Arsene Wenger, but now having two more injuries to add to the growing tally makes his life difficult ahead of an important run of games to come.

Arsenal suffered a 3-0 mauling at the hands of Championship Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup fourth round on Tuesday night.

The Gunners were handed an early injury blow on four minutes, when Arsenal was forced to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with Theo Walcott. Walcott’s night did not last long though, as he hobbled off on 18 minutes and was replaced by youngster Ismael Bennacer, who was making his Gunners debut. The game was slow to get going and there was little in the way of sparkling play.

Arsenal faces a trip to Championship Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The home side are currently midtable in the second tier under Portuguese boss Carlos Carvalhal. The Owls are unbeaten in six games in all competitions and picking-up four wins. They currently sit just outside the play-off places in the Championship table.

Last time out Wednesday won 2-1 at Yorkshire rivals Rotherham, with Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri.  This clash with in-form Arsenal will act as a major test for Wednesday and their form this season though.

Arsenal draw Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup fourth round 0

After seeing past Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup third round on Wednesday night, Arsenal have been drawn away against Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round. The clash at Hillsborough Stadium will be in the week commencing on Monday, October 26, and sees the Londoners as big favourites to make the next round.

Arsenal are 4/1 to win the Capital One Cup this season, but Arsene Wenger’s men don’t have the best record in the competition. Under the long-serving French coach Arsenal have made just two finals in the Capital One Cup, losing both. The Gunners suffered defeat to Chelsea in the 2007 final, and lost to Birmingham City in the 2011 final.

Damian Martinez joins Sheffield Wedensday on loan 0

Arsenal goalkeeper Damian Emiliano Martinez has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on a month’s loan.

The 21-year old signed for the Gunners in 2010, but has so far been unable to force himself into the first-team and hopes to gain some valuable match experience while out on loan.

Martinez has featured for Argentina’s U17s and U20 – making two and five appearances respectively.

This season, he’s made two appearances for the Arsenal development side, but has grown frustrated at the lack of senior opportunities presented to him.
