Arsenal are monitoring Shakhtar Donetsk’s Manor Solomon as they consider a move for his services in the summer, according to The Guardian.

Solomon is a winger, 21, and his excellent performances in the Champions League this season, as well as the previous one, have been attracting attention across Europe. In all competitions, he has played 17 games this term so far, scoring five goals and adding an assist to his name as well. Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over the possibility of signing Mykola Matviyenko.

If you’ve been following Shakhtar lately, or at least seen them in the Champions League clashes they had with Manchester City this season, you probably know who this player is and have some general idea of what can be expected of him. Matviyenko is a defender, 23 years old, preferring to use his left foot on the ball and to play in the heart of the back line, though he is also fully capable of playing on either defensive flank. Standing 6′ tall, he is quite good in the air while boasting decent pace and skill with the ball on the ground too.

According to the Independent, Arsenal could be set to make a move for Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Douglas Costa.  Costa had refused to return to his Ukrainian club because of the on-going political troubles between Russia and Ukraine.

The 23-year-old was one of six players who have refused to return Donetsk, stating they felt their lives were in danger after the terrible air disaster involving a Malaysian airline, which killed 298 people. The plane is believed to have been shot down by a surface-to-air missile.

Shakhtar Donetsk starlet Bernard has admitted that he may have to leave his current employers in the summer transfer window due to ongoing unrest across Ukraine.

The Brazilian was reportedly close to joining Arsenal last summer, but he eventually opted to sign for the Ukrainian giants in a €25 million deal.

He has since helped the Miners win the 2013/2014 league title, but utterly failed to justify the transfer fee, starting just eight league games and another two Champions League fixtures.

Bernard, nonetheless, managed to make Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad, and the player now admits he might be leaving Shakhtar after the tournament finals having failed to adapt to life in Ukraine.
