The rumour mill is going to churn out quite a few different possibilities for Arsenal Football Club throughout the summer transfer window, as is the nature of the beast.

Still, it’s always interesting when a few names pop up that you may not have been expecting, which you could argue is the case with Ruben Neves.

A parade of websites and papers have linked the Portuguese midfielder with an exit from Molineux this season as Wolverhampton Wanderers prepare to let go of a man who has been instrumental to their success in recent years.

According to a latest report coming from Sky Sports, Arsenal have put the name of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves at the very top of their list for the upcoming transfer window. One has to assume it means the top of the list when it comes to midfielders, ahead of the likes of Arthur Melo of Juventus in whom the Gunners still hold an interest; after all, the absolute priority this summer will surely be a new striker.

Like any other club serious about being competitive at top level, Arsenal are already preparing for the summer transfer window and drafting potential targets according to the assessments of what the squad needs to become stronger. According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners have set signing two strikers and a midfielder as their top priority, with a left-sided centre-back and a right back slightly lower on the wish list.

No transfer window is ever a dull affair when it comes to stories popping up like mushrooms in a forest after a long rain, some from relatively respectable sources, others less so. An interesting one has popped up in Italy today (Thursday).

Corriere dello Sport are reporting that Jose Mourinho still wants Granit Xhaka in his team, and that having failed to sign him last summer, Roma are preparing a second offensive to try and tempt the Swiss international to swap North London for the Italian capital.

The transfer rumour mill is bound to churn out some absolute belts as we proceed through the summer and we’ve already got quite a tasty one to try and digest. It involves Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves and the process of him potentially moving to Arsenal which, according to reports, could be possible for a fee of just £35 million.

Some have questioned whether or not he’d be worth the money given the season Wolves have had, but anyone who has watched him throughout the course of a 90-minute game knows just how influential he is.

Arsenal interested in Ruben Neves 0

Arsenal are interested in signing Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, according to Tim Spiers of The Athletic.

The Gunners are believed to be big admirers of the 24-year-old midfielder, who joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 for a reported fee of around £16 million. His market value has certainly risen significantly since then, but Wolves are apparently in a situation where they have to sell star players in order to make big signings. The recent injuries to striker Raul Jimenez and winger Pedro Neto mean there probably won’t be suitors willing to fork out a large amount on either, which leaves either Neves or Adama Traore as potential candidates for departure from the Molineux this summer. The Portuguese’s contract runs for two more years and no cut-price deal is likely to be struck.

Wenger hints at January deals 0

Speaking ahead of the crunch tie with title rivals Manchester City, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has all but confirmed his plans to reinforce the squad over the winter, although that obviously doesn’t have to mean anything when the Frenchman is concerned.

The reality is that the Gunners have enjoyed one of the best starts to a league campaign in recent years, with only red-hot Leicester City currently in front of them in the standings, but numerous injuries to star players are creating problems at the moment.
