Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has fanned the flames of rumour that Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez may be a transfer target by claiming he knows what happened with the Algerian’s failed deadline day move to Manchester City.

Mahrez has gone on strike since a deadline day move to the Citizens collapsed and has not played since. He is expected to miss out once again this weekend, as the Foxes travel to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

Talking about the Mahrez situation, Wenger told the press: “You want the clubs to behave well and the players to behave well. In the case of Mahrez which I know a bit the story, I wouldn’t want to come out on that”.

Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez is reportedly keen on a switch away from the Foxes, with Premier League rivals Arsenal his preferred destination.

Arsenal finally saw the protracted Alexis Sanchez transfer saga end last week as the Chilean sealed his move away from the club. Sanchez had been tipped to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but a deal did not come about, and he instead joined Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United instead.

In return, Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal as the two players switched places. Since then, it seems as though Arsene Wenger has been keen to further bolster his attack, and it has been reported that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is edging closer to a move to Arsenal.

Arsenal fans were treated with a potential double score on Wednesday night following their 2-1 Carabao Cup win.

Not only have they witnessed their team progress to the final but they also spotted Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez leaving the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Algerian international as Arsene Wenger looks to further strengthen his squad following Alexis Sanchez’s departure. With Mesut Ozil being constantly linked with a move away from Arsenal as well, Arsene Wenger wants to make sure he continued replacing one world star player with another.

Arsene Wenger will reportedly let Alexis Sanchez leave Arsenal if he can sign Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez as his replacement, with the manager desperate to bring in a world-class replacement for the Chilean forward.

Arsenal’s last Premier League game ended in thrilling 2-2 draw as they shared the points with Chelsea. There were a number of incredible goals along with some contentious decision as the two London teams played out one of the games of the season.

While it was an incredibly exciting game, it saw Arsenal drop two more points. The Gunners are now two points short of Tottenham in fifth, while they are five behind Liverpool in the final Champions League place.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to test the resolve of Leicester City as the former champions face an attempt by the Gunners to poach Riyad Mahrez. The winger has been linked with the side recently, and with the apparently impending departure of Alexis Sanchez, Mahrez may be a good replacement for the Chilean.

Arsenal were able to take an important 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Thursday evening as they kept up the pressure on Tottenham and Liverpool above them. The gap between the three clubs is now just one point, with the battle for the final Champions League place heating up this season.

Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has been attracting plenty of attention around Europe as the 26-year-old is looking to leave the King Power Stadium before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.

The Algeria international has been released from international duty in attempt to finalize his future, knowing he formally handed in a transfer request earlier in the summer.

Mahrez was reportedly promised by club officials Leicester City would not stand in his way this summer, but the Foxes star still failed to solve his situation during the entire summer during which he was strongly linked with a move to Serie A giants AS Roma. Giallorossi, however, failed in their £32 million bid for the Foxes winger earlier this summer and are thought to be out of the race.

According to German publication Sport Bild, Arsenal could be set to make a summer move for Schalke’s highly rated German international midfielder Goretzka. However, they could face stiff competition for the 22-year-old from Bavarian giants Bayern Munich for the midfielder’s signature.

The young midfielder is gaining a big reputation in European football. Schalke are unwilling to sell the midfielder, despite his contract expiring next summer.

The German club did the same with Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac and the defender joined the Gunners on a free transfer this summer. It seems they are prepared to lose another player for nothing next summer and miss out on a significant transfer fee.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal could lose out on Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, with AS Roma reportedly keen on his signature. City manager Craig Shakespeare recently revealed there had been no offer for the Algerian, with Arsenal putting their focus on Monaco’s Thomas Lemar this summer.

Arsene Wenger’s side have had two bids rejected for the 21-year-old and are believed to be preparing a third bid up to £50m. If Arsenal are successful in signing Lemar, they aren’t going to approach Mahrez. Roma, however, do want the latter as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who joined Liverpool.
