Arsenal-linked Sabitzer wants to leave Leipzig 0

Posted on March 29, 2021 by Veselin Trajkovic

RB Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer has informed his club of his intention to leave at the end of the season, according to German publication Bild.

Sabitzer went through a number of clubs at different youth levels, but the start of his senior career came at Austrian FC Admira Wacker in 2011, when he was still only 17. He soon moved on to Rapid Vienna, and joined Leipzig in the summer of 2014. He has been a vital contributor to everything that has been achieved at the Red Bull Arena since, making a total of 219 appearances, scoring across all competitions, scoring 50 goals and producing 41 assists.

Arsenal interested in Ibrahima Konate 0

Arsenal are interested in signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, according to the Evening Standard.

The 21-year-old defender joined Leipzig in the summer of 2017 from Sochaux, where he rose through the youth ranks and earned himself a place in the first team just six months before. Since then, he’s gone on to make 88 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, scoring four goals and assisting once. This term, Konate has been struggling with injuries, missing a total of 10 matches in the German top flight through a torn muscle fibre and an ankle problem. Because of that, he hasn’t exactly been a regular starter for Julian Nagelsmann’s team, being named in the lineup no more than four times, coming on off the bench in another four games, and remaining seated in the dugout in five. Nonetheless, the 6’4″ centre-back boasts significant experience for his age, and plays with surprising maturity.

Leipzig and Leverkusen lead Balogun race 0

RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are currently leading the race for the signature of Folarin Balogun when his contract with Arsenal expires in the summer, according to the latest report on that front by the Mirror.

Arsenal have been trying to get the youngster to recommit his future and stay at the Emirates, seeing him as a player for the future, and manager Mikel Arteta recently expressed some optimism about it, but it seems Balogun has no intention of waiting any longer for regular first-team opportunities. He hasn’t played a single Premier League game so far, featuring only in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup this term. He’s scored twice in four appearances in the European competition, and only played in the 1-4 cup defeat to Manchester City back in December. Instead, he has mostly played for the Under-23 side, scoring seven goals and assisting twice in the Premier League 2.

Arsenal interested in Ibrahima Konate 0

As reported by TodoFichajes, Arsenal have ‘turned their attention’ to Ibrahima Konate after getting frustrated in their pursuit of his teammate Dayot Upamecano.

Manager Mikel Arteta is still keen to boost his defensive options despite signing Gabriel Magalhaes this summer who turned out to be a real hit. To that end, he apparently wanted Upamecano to join his ranks and the club made contact with Leipzig to discuss a deal, but were frustrated by a ‘huge price’ the Bundesliga side slapped on the 22-year-old Frenchman.

The situation has now prompted the Gunners to start looking at Konate instead.

Leipzig to enter Szoboszlai race? 0

Arsenal have recently been credited with interest in RB Salzurg’s Dominik Szoboszlai, as the midfielder continues to spark admiration around Europe with glittering performances both at club and international level. The links have grown much stronger since David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed he had been informed that the interest is genuine.

However, with all the attention the 20-year-old Hungarian has been getting lately, bringing him to the Emirates was never going to be an easy task. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on the situation, it has been reported, as are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and AC Milan. And now, according to Football Insider, RB Leipzig are about to enter the race as well.

Arsenal favourites for Upamecano? 0

Arsenal are at the head of the queue to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to Tuttosport.

The report from the Italian outlet mostly deals with AC Milan’s interest in the 21-year-old, and its writer sees this development as a ‘mockery’ – that the club which Ivan Gazidis left to become the Rossoneri CEO should now surpass the seven-time European champions regarding a potential signing.

Boateng or Upamecano? 1

As the January transfer window slowly unfolds, Arsenal have been linked heavily with two players who could potentially boost the back line of the team. One of them is RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, young (21), talented, perceived by most as an old fashion centre-back – a player who ‘loves to defend’ as they say.

Adding such a player to the ranks probably wouldn’t solve much straight away. Every player who changes clubs, let alone leagues, needs time to adapt, to absorb the teachings and the tactical demands of the new coaching team. Experienced players usually get the hang of these issues much quicker than younger ones, and to expect a 21-year-old to come in and notably improve a defence that has been looking frail (to put it mildly) for years would seem a folly.

The January transfer window opens on New Year’s Day (Wednesday), and like every other club anywhere, Arsenal are preparing for a trip to the market. Whether they’ll end up selling or buying anything, or spend the month ‘just looking’, remains to be seen.

Temporary move to RB Leipzig a good one for Smith-Rowe’s career 0

One of the more surprising moves of the winter deadline day 2019 was Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe joining Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on loan until the end of the season. The highly-rated youngster has recently been sidelined due to injury. However, prior to the injury, the midfielder had only really featured in the cup competitions and his game time was limited in the Premier League.

Smith-Rowe following in Nelson’s footseteps

I have to say that when Smith Rowe’s fellow talented youngster Reiss Nelson joined Hoffenheim on loan in the summer for this season I was surprised, as he looked like he could have played more first-team football.

Closing in on Adli

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of teenager Yacine Adli, according to the Guardian.

The 17-year-old midfielder has worked with manager Unai Emery at his former club Paris Saint-Germain, and he has reportedly rejected an offer of a professional contract from the French club and decided to follow Emery to the Emirates.

The contract that he’s being offered by Arsenal is for three years, and it includes options for extensions.
