It’s been a busy summer for Arsenal. Having added to their ranks through acquisitions of winger Willian and centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes as well as the arrival of centre-back William Saliba from Saint-Etienne, and secured another loan season-long spell for midfielder Dani Ceballos, there are reportedly still some moves potentially to be made before the window is out.
Paris Saint-Germain have been in talks with Arsenal over a proposed transfer of Hector Bellerin, and according to The Telegraph, they’re growing increasingly confident that the deal will be done.
Having lost the services of Thomas Meunier, who left Paris to join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer earlier this summer, the Ligue 1 champions have had a bit of a problem when it comes to natural options on the right defensive flank. Head coach Thomas Tuchel has mostly been utilizing Thilo Kehrer in the role, though the Germany international is a centre-back by default. And with Thiago Silva now gone to Chelsea, Kehrer will likely have to return to his preferred position.
It’s been one hell of a ride, but Arsenal Women have finally seen their UEFA Champions League journey come to an end at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. They did equalise after going behind through Beth Mead, but they just couldn’t overcome the power and quality of the French side.
Yet, while there is a certain layer of disappointment in defeat, there is hope that the Gunners can continue to serve as one of English football’s greatest ever clubs – and that goes for the women’s team as well as the men’s.
What direction will the Arsenal Women go in next?
According to France Football magazine, Arsenal are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa this summer.
Kurzawa started his journey as a professional football player with AS Monaco back in 2010, when he was promoted from their youth setup to the first team. He was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season in 2013/14, and a year later he made his move to PSG where he has won three Ligue 1 titles, three Coupe de France trophies, as well as three French League Cups. He has 13 caps with France under his belt.
According to reports in France, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabonese forward is under contract until the summer of 2021, which means he has now entered the final 18 months of its duration. There was talk about a new deal being on the horizon this season, but though he recently spoke in encouraging tones regarding his commitment to the club, both he and manager Mikel Arteta have so far avoided answering questions about extending his stay at the Emirates beyond the current one.
Thomas Meunier, a reported target for Arsenal, has refused to rule out leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Arsenal have been continuously linked with the 27-year-old as they seek experienced, quality defenders to add to their ranks. Meunier primarily plays on the right defensive flank and would likely serve therefore as serious competition, rather than backup, for Hector Bellerin. Apart from Arsenal, Manchester United have also reportedly expressed their interest, but Meunier has apparently poured some very cold water over that particular link by labeling the win of the 20-time English champions over PSG in this season’s Champions League as “the biggest joke in football“.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Thomas Meunier from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Belgian international started his career with R.E. Virton in Belgian second, and later third division, back in 2008/09. Three years later, he moved to Club Brugge, for which he played a total of 188 games and scored 19 goals in all competitions over five seasons. He arrived to the Parc Des Princes in 2016, when Unai Emery was the man in the dugout.
Arsenal are still interested in Christopher Nkunku of Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France.
The 21-year-old, turning 22 in November this year, has spent his entire professional career at the Parc Des Princes. He is primarily a central midfielder, though his powerful bursts of pace render him quite capable of deputizing on either attacking flank. He was involved in the Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting incident last weekend as the former Stoke City striker thoroughly embarrassed himself by failing to hit the gaping net from the goal-line itself, and actually clearing the effort of Nkunku off the line.
Matteo Guendouzi has revealed Paris Saint-Germain were interested in signing him prior to his arrival to the Emirates.
Guendouzi passed through the French title holders’ youth system before joining Ligue 2 side Lorient in 2015.
Speaking to French outlet Canal +, the 18-year-old confirmed a number of clubs, including PSG, were interested in his services. However, as soon as he learned of Arsenal’s involvement, his mind was made up. He knew that this was the right club for him and he focused all his attention on joining the Gunners. The club spent £7million on his signature, not a small amount given his age and the fact that he had no previous first-team experience in top-tier football.
Closing in on Adli
Arsenal are closing in on the signing of teenager Yacine Adli, according to the Guardian.
The 17-year-old midfielder has worked with manager Unai Emery at his former club Paris Saint-Germain, and he has reportedly rejected an offer of a professional contract from the French club and decided to follow Emery to the Emirates.
The contract that he’s being offered by Arsenal is for three years, and it includes options for extensions.
