Fabrizio Romano talks Reiss Nelson, Houssem Aouar 0

Posted on November 01, 2022 by Veselin Trajkovic

It’s been a long time since Arsenal were linked with Houssem Aouar of Olympique Lyon, hasn’t it?

The 24-year-old (it feels like yesterday when we wrote about him as a 22-year-old) was indeed on Arsenal’s wish list in the past by all accounts, but the acquisition of Martin Odegaard on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid seemed to have put a stop to those stories for a while. Now, however, Aouar is in the final season of contract at Lyon, and it’s only natural for all sorts of rumours to be popping up, including the revival of those involving Arsenal.

Arsenal to join Malo Gusto race? 0

According to 90min, Arsenal are one of the clubs on the ever growing list of those currently monitoring the situation around Olympique Lyon right-back Malo Gusto.

At the age of 19, Gusto has been impressing with excellent performances in Ligue 1, most notably putting in a fine display to stop Neymar in his team’s 0-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in September. Having risen through the youth ranks at the Lyon academy, he hasn’t scored for the first team yet, but he has penciled in six assists in 48 matches in all competitions so far.

Lyon open to Paqueta offers 0

Olympique Lyon are open to offers for the services of Arsenal target Lucas Paqueta, according to Ben Jacobs of CBS.

Apparently, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, otherwise notoriously famous as a man extremely difficult to negotiate with, has accepted the player is keen for a change of scenery and decided not to hold out for the price he wanted back in January, close to £70 million. He will now listen to anything in the region of £55m. If such an offer arrives, the Ligue 1 club won’t stand in Paqueta’s way.

Alexandre Lacazette agrees Lyon return 0

Alexandre Lacazette has reached an agreement with his old club Olympique Lyon to return there as a free agent when his contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the month, according to Adam Crafton of The Athletic.

The French striker rose through the youth ranks at Lyon and made his move to Arsenal in the summer of 2017 for a fee believed to have been worth around £50 million. Since then, he went on to represent the Gunners on 206 occasions in all competitions, scoring 71 goals along with 36 assists. He started the 2021-22 season as a backup option with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang preferred in the central role upfront, but as the last bout of disciplinary issues with the Gabonese began and his January move to Barcelona approached, Lacazette was restored to the starting lineup and his significance grew for a while, despite there being no hint of a possible extension of contract.

Rumours: Arsenal to battle Newcastle for Luis Paqueta? 0

Posted on April 13, 2022 by Veselin Trajkovic

An interesting (the word is used loosely here) story has recently come from Newcastle-based local outlet Chronicle Live and their chief Newcastle United writer, Lee Ryder. Apparently, Arsenal could be locked in a battle against the Magpies this summer for the services of Olympique Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta.

Ryder believes Newcastle have already beaten Arsenal, or as he puts it, ‘caught them napping’, when it came to their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes. Buoyed by their new ownership, the Geordies were able to pay as much as it took for Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas to agree to sell, while the Gunners reportedly moved on to pursue Arthur Melo and failed to reach an agreement with Juventus.

Arsenal interested in Lucas Paqueta 0

Arsenal are interested in signing Lucas Paqueta from Olympique Lyon, according to Calciomercato.

It seems the Gunners are bracing themselves for a new attempt by Jose Mourinho to sign Granit Xhaka for AS Roma at the end of the season, and Paqueta is seen as a suitable replacement for the experienced Swiss international, particularly if manager Mikel Arteta decides to switch to a three-man midfield.

Arsenal still hold Bruno Guimaraes interest 0

Arsenal are still interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Olympique Lyon, according to Sky Sports.

Back in December, it was reported that the Gunners had opened talks with the Ligue 1 side for the 24-year-old defensive midfielder, who works well as a lone No.6 in a 4-3-3 system or a part of a double pivot in a 4-2-3-1, with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta currently preferring the latter. This season, Guimaraes has so far made 25 appearances in all competitions and is yet to score, though he has six assists to his name. He is also a three-cap Brazil international, contracted to Lyon until the summer of 2024, and it is believed the French club would not allow him to leave for anything under €30 million (just over £25m).
