Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is one of the host of players Arsenal have been linked with in recent months. Having come through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, he had a loan spell with Toulouse before joining the Scottish champions in 2017, initially on another loan which was made permanent for around £15 million a year later. Overall, he has so far played in 136 games for Celtic, scoring 66 goals and laying on 32 assists. Edouard’s importance to Neil Lennon’s team can be perceived very clearly if the fact that their slumps in form over the last two season coincided with his absences from action is looked at. His contract expires at the end of 2021/22, which means he’ll be entering the final 12 months of the deal at the end of the current campaign.
With several weeks of the transfer window left to run, transfer reports and rumours are still coming thick. Let’s look at what is being said about the Gunners.
Emiliano Martinez to join Aston Villa
When Bernd Leno picked up an injury in the unexpected defeat away to Brighton and Hove Albion last season, Emiliano Martinez stepped in and did a wonderful job between the posts. He was so good that some suggested that head coach Mikel Arteta should have given serious consideration to making him his number one choice ahead of Leno, but that was never likely to happen.
