Konstantinos Mavropanos has joined Bundesliga II side Nurnberg on loan, Arsenal have confirmed.

The defender started his football journey with Apollon Smyrnis, but he only played for their youth sides before moving to PAS Giannina in January 2016. The Gunners signed him two years later for a fee of around £2 million, as a prospect for the future. However, injuries have severely hampered his progress in North London and in the two years that have passed since, he has only made eight first-team appearances in all competitions – seven in the Premier League and one in the Europa League. The 22-year-old Greek has suffered groin injuries on three different occasions, the last time being for the first two months of this season.

Switzerland starlet Josip Drmic has denied that a deal has been agreed for him to join Arsenal this summer. The 21-year-old striker has scored 16 goals for struggling Bundesliga outfit Nurnberg this season, just one goal behind Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic in the race for the golden boot in the German top-flight.

Denial

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus had even claimed on German television that Drmic and his wife were looking at houses in the English capital ahead of the move. However, the youngster has denied that any deal has been agreed.

Reports from Sky Sports have suggested Arsenal are looking at the possibility of signing Nurnberg striker Josip Drmic.

The 21-year-old was rumoured to have agreed a move with the Gunners and his wife was said to be looking to buy a property in London – according to Lothar Matthaus, who works for Sky Sports in Germany.

However, the claims have since been refuted by Drmic, who did also admit it would be a dream to have the chance to play for Arsene Wenger’s side.
