Arsenal continue to be linked with Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, despite the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham having made an official approaches for the Frenchman this summer, so is there really any truth to the rumours linking him with a move to the Emirates stadium ahead of the new season?

Schneiderlin, 25, is 10/3 to join Arsenal this summer, but manager Arsene Wenger doesn’t appear likely to make the Southampton man one of his genuine transfer targets. The Gunners have the needed steel in midfield from the rise to prominence of Francis Coquelin, and very rarely add to their midfield options given how much depth Arsenal are blessed with.

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has signed a new one-year deal with the club months after initially agreeing to it. The 33-year-old’s future in north London was in doubt, with a number of clubs in his home country believed to have offered him big deals.

His future at the club was also in doubt because of the fact that he missed much of last season through injury. The Spaniard made just ten appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, including just six Premier League starts.

In his absence French midfielder Francis Coquelin has nailed down the defensive midfield spot, which Arteta had occupied for the past few seasons.

The 28-year-old has established a reputation for himself as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in world football in recent years. Last season he helped Juventus to a domestic double of Serie A title and Coppa Italia.

Sky Sports has learned that Arsenal are considering summer bid for Swansea midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng as they look to add some fresh blood to the centre of the park.

While Francois Coquelin has excelled in the holding midfield position since returning from a loan spell at Charlton, the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta could both leave this summer.

Namely, even if their respective contracts are due to expire at the end of June, neither has been offered a new deal as of yet, meaning their future at the club is in doubt.

Real Madrid and Germany defensive midfielder Sami Khedira is set to have a medical at Italian giants Juventus later today, according to the Daily Star. The former-Stuttgart player has previously been touted as a possible transfer target for Arsenal.

If the reports are correct then the midfielder is currently in Turn discussing terms on a four-year-deal with the Italian champions.

Khedira has struggled with injuries throughout his career at Real Madrid, but when he is fit is a very good player and is available on a free transfer this summer. I have to say I really do believe that Arsenal could have missed out on a good deal with Khedira.
