On Wednesday night, Arsenal face London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku.

Chelsea have been designated as the home side for the London derby clash. The Blues have enjoyed a successful campaign, finishing in the Champions League spots in the Premier League, while making it to the final of this competition.

Despite the good campaign, the final could be Blues’ boss Maurizio Sarri’s final game in charge, as speculation mounts that he could be Juventus’ next boss.

Arsenal went into Saturday evening’s match with rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium with the mood slightly changed from a few weeks ago. There are cracks behind the scenes, while the team is no longer displaying the consistent results of earlier in the campaign.

However, the Gunners produced a solid display to see off the Blues 2-0 to move back within three points of the team from south west London.

Showed steal in a vital match

At times in recent seasons, Arsenal have crumbled under pressure. This was a high-pressure game. A defeat would have seen the Gunners fall nine points behind their London rivals, with sixth place Manchester United also in good form.

It is early days for Arsenal’s new head coach Unai Emery. I am in the camp that the Spaniard needs time to turn things around in north London. The Gunners players had been complacent far too long under Arsene Wenger to suddenly turn in a world-beating team overnight.

One of the main problems the Gunners have is in defence. Saturday evenings 3-2 defeat at Chelsea showed the major job Emery has on his hands to turn the team’s fortunes around.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to launch a £30million move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The move would certainly be a surprising one from the Blues, at the minute it does not look like an unrealistic move. However, Arsenal boss Unai Emery recently stated that he is confident that Ramsey will sign a new deal with the Gunners.

Future at Arsenal in doubt

As we all know, Ramsey’s future at the club has been a hot topic this summer. The Welshman’s representatives are still negotiating with the club over a new deal for the midfielder, who has less than a year left on his current deal in north London.
