Arsenal’s pursuit for Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter looks to be over after the player himself has stated his desire to play for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund rather than any other club.

“It would be nice if we could resolve this issue now. I would like that to happen before our first World Cup game. If I am going to move, then it will only be to Dortmund. I was always a Dortmund fan and the environment and fans there are great. It’s therefore not difficult for me to say I want to play for Dortmund.”

Arsenal are reportedly readying summer bid for Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter as they look to reinforce the back line ahead of the new season. With Thomas Vermaelen heavily linked with a summer exit, the Gunners could make a move on the talented footballer.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be looking to add a promising centre-back to his ranks to serve as a back up to starting stoppers Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, as well as learn from them as he adapts to life in the Premier League.

Arsenal have reportedly been in the market for German U21 international Matthias Ginter before, but it does appear they are renewing their interest in the Freiburg player.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are close to sealing a deal to sign the 19-year old centre-back. After the side loaned out Francis Coquelin to Freiburg, it was expected that the German league side would sell Ginter as per the arrangement. However, he’s yet to leave, but could be on his way to the Emirates soon.

Last season, Ginter made 23 Bundesliga appearances, scoring once. The 6 foot 1 German can also play as a midfielder.

Versatile German U21 international Matthias Ginter is reported to have attracted the interest of Arsenal this summer. His asking price is said to be around £5M.

The 19-year old, who plays for German Bundesliga side Freiburg, can be utilised as a defender and midfielder. He made 23 Bundesliga appearances this season – scoring once.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger regards Ginter as a promising young player, who could eventually fill a void as a holding-midfielder. After sending his own young defensive midfielder, Francis Conquelin, on a season-long loan to the German side, Wenger is hoping Freiburg will consider offers for the 19-year old.
