Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by struggling West Ham at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Gunners controlled the opening exchanges. However, the first attempt on goal did not arrive until the tenth minute. West Ham ‘keeper Adrian got down to comfortably save Alexis Sanchez’s effort.

On 15 minutes, West Ham winger Marko Arnautovic saw a headed effort ruled out for offside. Arsenal came forward again on 23 minutes. A good team move involving Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud resulted in the ball being played to Sanchez, whose deflected effort flew wide of the post.

Arsenal kept their hopes of Champions League qualification for next season alive with a 4-1 win at Stoke City on Saturday evening.

Arsenal had the first real threat on goal on five minutes, as Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland saved well at the feet of Alexis Sanchez. The referee’s assistant raised the flag anyway, so the effort would not have counted, but nevertheless a good save from the ‘keeper.

The Gunners threatened again on nine minutes. Mesut Ozil floated a corner into the area that Shkodran Mustafi glanced towards goal, only for Butland to tip over the bar superbly.

Arsenal face a tough trip to Stoke’s Britannia Stadium on Sunday, but it may not be as tough as previous trips to the Potteries. Arsene Wenger’s side have on many occasions been rough-up and beaten by the Potters on their own turf.

Arsenal’s record of just one Premier League win from nine visits to the Britannia Stadium illustrates the Gunners poor displays in the Potteries. However, the days of Arsenal going to Stoke and being kicked-off the pitch may be long gone.

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Stoke at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. England winger Theo Walcott had to withdraw from the team late through illness and was replaced by young German Serge Gnabry.

Record signing Mesut Ozil made his home debut and had a hand in the Gunners opening goal on five minutes.

Jack Wilshere was fouled by Charlie Adam 25 yards out. Ozil’s free-kick was parried by Potters keeper Asmir Begovic, only for in-form Aaron Ramsey to fire home the rebound. The Gunners looked comfortable and passed the ball around with Ozil central to their play.
