The most obvious sign of a transfer window approaching is, of course, the multitude of transfer rumours which most outlets, frankly, just throw against the wall and hope that at least something stays on.

Many reasonably reliable journalists have reported about Arsenal’s interest in Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans as manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu seek to strengthen the attacking and midfield ranks. However, there are always more of those stories which intelligent people find hard to believe, and one such has come from the Mirror a few days ago. Apparently, the Gunners are currently ‘exploring’ the possibility of signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.

According to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol, Arsenal and Premier League rivals Arsenal are both interested in signing Real Madrid’s highly talented attacking midfielder Marcos Asensio this summer.

Asensio is one of the brightest young prospects in the Spanish game. The 21-year-old was one of the stars of the under 21 European Championships, where his national team finished runners-up to Germany.

Despite being highly rated, the versatile youngster has understandable had problems getting into the Los Blancos starting line-up. Last season he did make his mark in the Spanish capital and scored in Real’s 4-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League.

According to Diario Gol, Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio could be on his way to Arsenal, with the youngster threatening to leave the club this summer if he doesn’t get assurances from manager Zinedine Zidane about playing time next season.

The 21-year-old made 23 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos last season, scoring and creating five goals, but only 11 of them were starts. He scored in the Champions League final to help Real triumph over Juventus and has a number of clubs keen on his signature.
