Following Monchi’s decision to return to Sevilla rather than come to north London, former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars became the favorite for the role of technical director at the club. However, the Dutchman has now picked a different option as well, rubbing salt in Arsenal’s wounds.

“There are still plenty of challenges at Ajax and I’m having a good time here,” said Overmars, as quoted by the BBC.

“We are taking steps with both the youth academy and the first team and we still want to show a lot.”

Following the departure of head of recruitment Sven Mislintat from the club, Arsenal had their sights set on former AS Roma sporting director Monchi and intended to bring him in as a technical director. Reports went as far as to claim Monchi had been directly offered the job, but following a short period of consideration, he opted to go back to Sevilla.

Monchi had spent 17 years there before he joined Roma, and won 11 trophies with the La Liga side, including three Europa Leagues alongside current Arsenal manager Unai Emery. At the presentation in Seville, he spoke about the reasons for his choice.

Arsenal have been dealt a heavy blow in their pursuit of former AS Roma sporting director Monchi. According to the Mirror, the Spaniard has rejected the advances from the Gunners and chosen to return to Sevilla.

Arsenal have been looking to reshape the management of the club following the departure of head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, which in turn followed the departure of former CEO Ivan Gazidis. Monchi was their primary target for the role of technical director, but having worked there for 17 years, some of which included working with Unai Emery, he has decided to go back to Spain.

Arsenal are preparing an offer of a new deal for Rob Holding, according to the Mirror.

The defender suffered a cruciate ligament injury back in December last year, and he’s set to miss not only the rest of this season, but also the start of the next.

Despite those immensely unfortunate circumstances, however, the club have decided to offer him a new deal following his rise in quality and a sustained period of good form prior to the injury, as his partnership with Sokratis Papastathopoulos started looking very good in the absence of captain Laurent Koscialny.

Could Sanchez return to Arsenal? 0

Could Alexis Sanchez return to Arsenal? It’s fair to say it doesn’t really look likely. The Chilean left the club in circumstances that can only be described as unpleasant.

He arrived to the Emirates in a different era, back in 2014 when Arsenal were still a regular Champions League club, and that was probably the biggest factor that swayed him towards north London. According to a number of fairly reliable reports at the time, Barcelona had an offer from Liverpool, one they were willing to accept given that they had taken Luis Suarez from them practically by force (by activating his buyout clause). It was apparently a bigger offer than the one subsequently made by Arsenal.

Leaving Arsenal: Sven Mislintat 0

Sven Mislintat has ended his time with Arsenal today (Friday). It’s practically impossible to predict where the club will go from here as a number of reports list the likes of former Gunner Marc Overmars and AS Roma’s director of football Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, known around the football world as Monchi.

Together with the former CEO Ivan Gazidis and the current director of football Raul Sanllehi, Mislintat began a sort of revolution at Arsenal, which began in earnest with the dismissal of manager Arsene Wenger after 22 years.

According to reports from Spanish media outlet Sport, Premier League side Arsenal look set to appoint former Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi who’s been with the Catalan club since 2002.

A close friend of Ivan Gazidis’ will move into the Gunners boardroom to take over some of the responsibilities left unattended after Dick Law’s departure from the North London club.

Sanllehi is expected to be heavily involved in Arsenal’s recruitment strategy given his background as one of Barcelona’s chief negotiators in the past couple of years.
