Arsenal to reignite Locatelli interest – reports 0

Posted on September 19, 2022 by Veselin Trajkovic

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal are set to reignite old interest in Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

The Gunners are looking to add a midfielder to their ranks, that much has been clear for a while now, with Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luis the names mentioned most frequently as targets for technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta.

As for Locatelli, Arsenal were believed to be in the running to sign him from Sassuolo in the summer of 2021 and the effort seemed pretty genuine, until it became obvious the Italy international preferred Juventus as his destination. Now, however, it seems things have taken another turn.

It seems Hector Bellerin is set to remain at Arsenal beyond this summer following heavy speculation about his future.

The Spaniard was initially targeted by Paris Saint-Germain, who were looking for a right-back capable of causing the opposition a lot of problems out wide, but the Ligue 1 giants eventually turned their attention to Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi to provide that kind of contribution, and they soon completed the deal for the former Real Madrid man.

Ben White is obviously on the verge of becoming an Arsenal player, with his medical ahead of a £50m move expected to take place on Wednesday. However, the business doesn’t stop there, at least not when it comes to transfer rumours.

Fresh reports from Spain suggest the move for Martin Odegaard could yet be resurrected. The Norway international spent the second half of 2020-21 on loan at the Emirates, wearing the Arsenal shirt on 20 occasions in all competition, scoring and assisting twice apiece. The club were reportedly keen on turning the deal permanent this summer, but no deal has been struck and the 22-year-old Norwegian himself said he was ready to fight for his future at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti.

Having completed the signing of left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica, Arsenal appear still to be very busy in the transfer market as manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu attempt to perform a thorough overhaul of the squad.

The player practically certain to be the next to arrive at the Emirates is Albert Sambi Lokonga. The deal between Arsenal and Anderlecht was reached several days ago, and according to fresh reports, the 21-year-old midfielder is currently in London, undergoing his medical. Once that’s done, his arrival should be confirmed officially. Arsenal will pay an initial fee of €17.5m, with add-ons to come on top of that.

Arsenal given green light to spend £250m on transfers 0

Arsenal owners Kroenke Sports & Entertainment have reportedly given the club the green light to spent £250 million on incoming transfers this summer. That is according to the 90min portal, who have pointed out that manager Mikel Arteta would thus be given a chance to rebuild his team to a degree that should be sufficient to turn their on-field fortunes around, following a ninth-place finish in the Premier League and failure to qualify for any European competition.

It’s worth pointing out that 90min is hardly what you’d call a reliable source at this point, but if true, the claim appears to confirm the promise the Kroenkes gave to the supporters following the European Super League fiasco a few months ago.

A few days ago, Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevali named Arsenal as the favourites among the clubs outside of Italy interested in Manuel Locatelli, though he also said there were talks with Juventus as well. It seems there have been fresh developments in this matter, however, and as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Carnevali says the talks with one club abroad are ‘really advanced’.

“We’re gonna meet with Juventus in the next days, but there are no negotiations yet with Juve as Italian clubs are in difficult financial situation,” Carnevali adds.

Arsenal and Juventus are set to compete for the signature of Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli, according to the Serie A side’s sporting director Giovanni Carnevali. As relayed by Sky Sports, Carnevali said Sassuolo were in talks with the Old Lady, but also that Arsenal are leading the race when it comes to clubs outside Italy.

Sassuolo spoke to Juventus, the only Italian club in the running at the moment, last week, in a meeting between Carnevali and the Turin giants’ own sporting director, Federico Cherubini.
