The situation surrounding Matteo Guendouzi seems to have died away from the public eye in recent months, and that’s probably a good thing with Arsenal needing to focus on regaining momentum when the Premier League returns from the international break.
According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are monitoring the situation of young Lorient striker Alexis Claude-Maurice. The report claims that the youngster will be available for a fee of around £9million this summer.
The 20-year-old has attracted attention in the second tier this season scoring 14 league goals. Reportedly, Premier League new boys Norwich also hold an interest in the youngster. High-flying Lille could also enter the race for the forward if highly-rated Nicolas Pepe leaves this summer, with the Gunners have also been linked with the Ivory Coast winger.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are set to offer young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi a new contract worth around £75,000 per week, which would double his salary in north London.
The youngster has made a promising start to his Gunners career after a move to the Gunners from homeland club Lorient for a fee of around £7million plus bonuses.
This is a strange move
I have to say I don’t understand why the Gunners are handing him a new contract so soon after joining. The youngster still has three years on his current contract to run, so why double his wages?
Arsenal’s young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi arrived in North London from French club Lorient in the summer. The youngster arrived for a modest fee of around £7million plus add-ons, which by modern standards is chicken feed.
Although apparently highly-rated in football circles, Guendouzi was not exactly a household name prior to arrival in north London. Most Arsenal fans would have been forgiven for not knowing anything about the midfielder.
Made a promising start Arsenal career
Guendouzi has certainly proven to be one of the more impressive summer recruits this season. At times, he has shown tremendous maturity on the ball, far beyond his tender 19 years.
Arsenal have done a lot of things throughout the course of the summer transfer window, but there’s one thing they categorically haven’t done: and that’s waste time. The Gunners have been ruthless in going after the kind of players that Unai Emery believes will improve the team, and while we won’t see the end result until the actual season kicks off, the early signs have been extremely positive. Now, according to Sky Sources, their latest transfer could be a matter of days away from being announced.
There are quite a few young Arsenal fringe players that are hoping that Mr Wenger doesn’t buy too many stars but promotes his youngsters into the Gunners first team.
One of these is the Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell, who after a successful loan period at Lorient in Ligue 1, feels he is now ready and willing to take his rightful place in the Arsenal first team.
“That’s what I’m hoping for – to play for Arsenal next year,” Campbell said. “I think I’ve got the ability to do it. I’ve got every confidence in my ability to go to Arsenal and play.
