Arsenal took the lead with the first shot on goal on five minutes. A good team move lead to Alexis Sanchez putting Theo Walcott through on goal and the winger slotted coolly low past Claudio Bravo in the City goal.

The home side had a golden opportunity to equalise on seven minutes. Kevin De Bruyne put a pinpoint cross into Raheem Sterling at the far post, only for the winger to head agonisingly wide of goal from close-range.
