Alexis Sanchez scored a brace for Arsenal as the Gunners defeated relegation Sunderland 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Gunners had the first attempt on goal after just three minutes, as Alexis Sanchez fired an effort well over the bar from long-range. Arsenal looked to have taken the lead on eight minutes.

Calls for Arsene Wenger’s head appear to be falling on deaf ears and as things stand at this point the Arsenal boss is likely to put pen to paper on a new two-year contract, despite a frustrating closure to the Premier League season.

The Gunners are coming off from a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Selhurst Park with their top-four chances sustaining a fresh blow in a game which saw plenty of first-team stars being slammed for their below-par performances.

North London club are believed to be one of the top sides currently monitoring Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Sunderland shipped in the total of 56 Premier League goals thus far, but the number would have been significantly higher had it not been for Jordan Pickford.

FA Cup holders Arsenal recorded a relatively comfortable 3-1 FA Cup third round over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, as goals from Joel Campbell, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud secured the Gunners safe passage into the fourth round.

The visitors had the first attempt on goal as Jeremain Lens fired an effort just past Petr Cech’s goal from 25 yards out. On ten minutes it was Arsenal’s turn to attack. A good team move involving Oxlade-Chamberlain, Callum Chambers and Olivier Giroud resulted with Kieran Gibbs being put through on-goal. However, Jordan Pickford stood up well to block the effort.
