Does Danny Welbeck deserve to be in the England squad? 0

Posted on September 10, 2018 by David Nugent

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has vowed to keep working hard and prove he merits a place in the England squad. The former Manchester United striker appeared as a substitute in the Three Lions 2-1 home defeat by Spain.

In fact, he was highly unfortunate not to equalise in stoppage-time when he saw a goal harshly disallowed for what looked like a non-existent foul on Spain goalkeeper David De Gea.

In England squad by default

Welbeck is a decent attacking option for England boss Gareth Southgate. However, he almost just a default option for the Three Lions boss, who currently has a dearth of quality attacking cover for first-choice striker Harry Kane.

Arsenal drew 0-0 at Premier League champions Leicester on Saturday evening. Both teams lacked a cutting edge and the result was arguably a fair one in the end.

The Gunners had the first attempt on goal of the match, as Alexis Sanchez dragged a shot wide of goal from just outside the area. The game then saw a lot of action in midfield and not much room for chances to be created.

The next effort on goal did come until 25 minutes when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cut in from the wing and curled an effort just past Kasper Schmeichel’s far post.

Premier League giants Arsenal are one of quite a few top European clubs showing interest in Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, the player’s official representative has moved to suggest.

It is no secret that the Gunners are in the market for a high-profile centre forward and after missing out on Jamie Vardy, they have been linked with a number of quality footballers.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was heavily criticised for missing out on Netherlands starlet Vincent Janssen, who has signed for Tottenham, but it appears he has now turned his attention to Mauro Icardi.

According to the Guardian, Arsenal have now agreed a deal with Japanese club Sanfreece Hiroshima for young striker Takuma Asano. He will still need to pass a medical and will then the deal will be ratified.

The 21-year-old is highly-rated and is set to be in the Japanese squad for the summer Olympics in Brazil. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has labelled the striker as one for the future, but the big question is will the Gunners sign a more experienced striker this summer?

Seemingly a lack of forward options

Having missed out on Jamie Vardy, Arsenal have turned their attention towards signing the Brazilian starlet Gabriel Barbosa, dubbed the new Neymar.

England forward Jamie Vardy has decided to stay with Leicester City despite intense interest from Arsene Wenger.

Vardy signed a new contract with the Foxes and French manager turned his focus towards different targets, one of which is the 19-year-old Santos star, according to ESPN Brazil.

Brazilian teenager is subject to several offers with Chinese outfit Hebei China reportedly willing to pay a lucrative fee to snatch the talent, but Barbosa is not too keen on moving to Asia but has instead turned towards joining the Premier League side.

Arsenal are set to make a move for Lyon striker Alexander Lacazette, according to the Daily Telegraph anyway. The Gunners are obviously still looking for a new striker after Leicester’s England forward Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to north London.

The Telegraph claims that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has sounded-out Lacazette’s representatives over signing the prolific striker this summer.

Arsene have you been reading my articles?

A couple of months ago a story was doing the rounds that West Ham had had a bid for the striker turned down and I wrote at the time that the Gunners should make a move for the Lyon. It seems Mr Wenger has been reading my articles!

According to the Daily Express and talkSport , Arsenal are set to attempt a big money move for Internazionale striker Marco Icardi, after the Gunners were snubbed in their £20million bid to sign Leicester star Jamie Vardy.

The Argentinian striker is believed to be rated in the £32million bracket and the Gunners could now be set to re-ignite their long-held interest in the star.

Built a good reputation in Serie A

Icardi is regarded as one of the brightest young forwards in the European game, having scored 16 times in the Italian top-flight last season. His goals and general performances are believed to have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs, including Arsenal it seems.

Arsenal’s striker hunt continues following Vardy snub 2

Posted on June 23, 2016 by David Nugent

Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker will continue after it was announced that Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy has signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes.

The Gunners attempted to sign Vardy prior to Euro 2016 by activating a £20million in his contract and Vardy was believed to be mulling the move over while on international duty with France at Euro 2016.

Bigger and higher expectations at Arsenal

There are probably a few factors that may have made the striker snub a move to north London, but one of them may have been bigger expectations at the Emirates.

Gunners have already made a move towards strengthening the squad in the summer transfer window having signed Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, but Arsene Wenger is expected to be more proactive as French tactician is keen to add some more firepower to his attacking line.

And having seen their bid to land Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy fail with England forward determined to stay on with the Foxes, Arsenal have set their sights on other targets.

Alvaro Morata remains a long-term wish, but it seems that Arsene Wenger is exploring more options as Corriere dello Sport reports that Gunners are keen to pounce on Inter Milan striker Stevan Jovetic.

Will three signing be enough for Arsenal this summer? 1

Posted on June 20, 2016 by David Nugent

It seems that despite Arsenal being linked with a plethora of players this summer, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is not going to break a habit of a lifetime and heavily strengthen his squad this summer.  As the veteran French boss has stated the Gunners would only sign three players.

A maximum of three players arriving

Talking to Tencent Sports, Wenger said: “We’ve already bought one player – Granit Xhaka – from [Borussia] Monchengladbach, because we’ve lost three players. We’ve lost Arteta, we’ve lost Rosicky and Flamini,”
