The rumour mill is going to be churning out a variety of different names pretty thick and fast over the course of the next eight days or so. That much is to be expected, and we just have to kind of deal with it. However, while we’d usually try and avoid stories that seem outlandish, the name James Rodriguez crossed our desk – and we haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
There had been speculation in a number of British tabloids of late linking Arsenal with a move for Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez, who is currently on-loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid. However, respected German football expert Raphael Honigstein has poured cold water on the story, suggesting it would be crazy for Bayern Munich to cut short their two-year loan deal at this point.
Arsenal does not have the funds to sign Rodriguez
We all now know that Arsenal can only make loan signings in the January transfer window. That leaves the question of how the Gunners could afford the Colombian international if boss Unai Emery is restricted to signing loan players.
The transfer of Denis Suarez from Barcelona to Arsenal is one step closer after the two clubs held talks with a positive outcome, the Mirror have reported.
Manager Unai Emery is extremely keen on Suarez coming to the Emirates this month. However, the manager is still facing several difficult circumstances in which the deal needs to be completed.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Arsenal are pondering a big money bid for Bayern Munich playmaker James Rodriguez. The Colombian is currently on-loan at the Bavarian club from Real Madrid.
The German giants have an option to purchase the player on a permanent deal. However, Bayern look unlikely to decide to exercise their right to extend the playmaker’s stay in Bavaria beyond the summer.
The 27-year-old has endured a mixed spell with the German giants. Reportedly, the player wished to open talks with Bayern about his long-term future.
Verdict: England Win
Best Odds: 11/10
On Tuesday night, Colombia and England go head-to-head for a place in the last 16 of the World Cup. Colombia made the last eight last time out, but the Three Lions have not played in the World Cup quarter-final since 2006. It is a massive game for both teams.
Colombia recovered from a defeat in their opening group games to defeat Poland and Senegal top Group H. The highly-rated South American team have been on a run of unconvincing form of late, as they failed to win any of their three warm-up games heading into Russia 2018.
As we all know Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger does not like putting his hand in his pocket when it comes to spending the clubs money. Last summer he did spend big money on Shkodran Mustafi and Granit Xhaka.
However, the rumour mill has now well and truly kicked in and Arsenal are being linked with some top players. Two of those players are Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, who would both no doubt add something to the Gunners team for next season.
Would reportedly cost similar fees
According to the Mirror, Arsenal are lining up a £50m bid to sign Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez this summer. The Gunners have reportedly caught wind of the South American’s unhappiness at the Santiago Bernabéu and are keen to bolster their squad with the potential departures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the coming weeks.
Rodriguez made just 13 starts in the Spanish La Liga last season, scoring and creating an impressive 14 goals. The 25-year-old has been used as a substitute nine times in the league and was left out of the matchday squad entirely in the Champions League victory over Juventus. The Colombian is alleged to have told Real of his desire to leave the club and is seeking first-team football to ensure of his place in Colombia’s 2018 World Cup squad.
European champions Real Madrid are being linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey in a deal reportedly worth £25 million.
Despite the fact Spanish giants are not allowed to make any transfer-related moves until January 2018, the British media outlet The Sun has today spread the word on Los Blancos being eager to snap the Welsh international once FIFA have lifted their transfer ban.
Real Madrid are hopeful their appeal against the two-window transfer ban will be a success, which would ultimately allow them to make a desired move earlier than planned.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Real Madrid is set to launch a bid to re-sign Arsenal’s in-form German playmaker Mesut Ozil.
The playmaker has been at his best this season for the Gunners and in the last ten Premier League appearances has produced 11 assists and 13 assists in all this season. He seems to have returned to the form that led to him being considered the European assist king not so long ago.
Arsenal are being linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco by the Daily Express. The former-Malaga star is reported rated in the £45millon bracket by the Spanish giants, who on Wednesday night exited the Champions League at the semi-final stage.
Isco started the match for the Spanish giants, as they drew 1-1 with Juventus at the Bernabeu and lost the tie 3-2 on aggregate.
Despite producing some impressive and influential displays for Real this season, Isco is still only considered a back-up to the likes of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos in central midfield. The 23-year-old signed for Real on the back of his superb displays for Malaga, but as an attacking midfielder.
