Koscielny picks up head injury in friendly defeat to Spain 0

Posted on March 28, 2017 by Crippy Cooke

Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny had an eventful outing for the France national team against Spain, giving away a penalty and clashing heads as Les Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat at home. However, the Gunners defender isn’t thought to have sustained any lasting damage that could rule him out of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

In Arsenal’s recent slump, Koscielny has been key to keeping the defence somewhat together. His absence in the Champions League saw the side crumble in both legs of their last-16 tie with Bayern Munich, and the form of partner Shkodran Mustafi has been disappointing alongside him in 2017. Mertesacker is waiting in the wings but is short on match fitness while the athletic Gabriel is error-prone at centre-back.

Mesut Ozil fit to face England in Saturday’s international friendly 0

Arsenal and Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil is expected to be passed fit in time to square off in Saturday’s international friendly against England at the Olympiastadion Berlin. Ozil had been struggling with an ankle injury, but trained with the national team on Thursday with no problems and confirmed himself that he’d be available to feature.

It’s unknown if he will start in Joachim Lowe’s team this weekend, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would certainly prefer if his key player was rested for the fixture given the important domestic games coming up. Arsenal still have to secure a top-four place in the Premier League, and goals have been drying up at the worst time.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is on the verge of making history for the Czech Republic, with the veteran shot-stopper on course to become his country’s most-capped star. The 33-year-old has made 117 appearances for the Nároďák, and will surpass Karel Poborsky’s total of 118 if he features against Serbia and Poland this month.

He’s been a regular for his country for 13 years, and is now on course to become the Czech’s highest appearance maker. Cech has shone for his new club this season, delivering standout showings between the sticks since his move from London rivals Chelsea, and will be hoping to shine for his country on what could be a landmark month in his career.

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs could start for England in tonight’s international friendly against Spain, and has a chance to prove his worth in the national team. The Three Lions have a lot of competition at left-back, with the likes of Luke Shaw (when fit), Ryan Bertrand and Leighton Baines (when fit) all in with a chance of being the first-choice number three.
