Valencia manager admits interest in Gabriel 1

Valencia boss Marcelino recently admitted he’s interested in signing Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista. The La Liga side are looking to bolster their defence and have three players on their shortlist ahead of the new season, reports the Evening Standard.

In addition to Gabriel, Inter Milan’s Jeison Murillo and Porto’s Ivan Marcano make up the defenders on Valencia’s wishlist. Something Marcelinho admitted, saying: “I think they are possible. We’re talking about important players who already know our league. They speak Spanish, and that’s important, so their adaptation would be very quick.”

Shock horror as Arsene Wenger changes his tactics! 0

Arsenal recorded a 2-1 win at Middlesbrough on Monday night, with goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil enough to seal the victory. It was by no means a pretty one, but as midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stated after the game they just needed a win.

Arsenal were not at their best and there was a slight nervousness about the Gunners, which is understandable because of their recent away form (four straight defeats).

However, in the end, the Gunners managed to grind out a win, in a fashion that they have struggled to do in the past.

Arsenal players not fit to wear the shirt 0

Arsenal’s abject performance in Monday night’s 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace confirmed something to Gunners fans. It confirmed the fact that a lot of the current squad are not fit to wear the shirt, as the chant goes.

Palace simply wanted it more and played on Arsenal’s weaknesses. However, their approach was obvious from the start. They were going to hit Christian Benteke at every possible opportunity.

This is not the beautiful game at its best, but it’s highly effective, especially against a team that looked scared of the Belgian striker. Palace were deserved winners against an Arsenal side that simply did not look good enough.

Carl Jenkinson must leave Arsenal in January 0

Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson has been linked with a January switch to Crystal Palace. According to boss Arsene Wenger, all that needs to be complete is personal terms, but the 24-year-old cannot come to an agreement with the Eagles.

It seems Jenkinson is stalling on a move to Palace, but surely a move to any Premier League club would boost his flagging career?

Not going to play at Arsenal

I have said this about Jenkinson in previous articles that he will hardly ever play at Arsenal. He has made one Premier League appearance this season and produced an unconvincing performance.

Gabriel proving to be an able right-back in Bellerin & Debuchy’s absence 0

Arsenal defender Gabriel once again had a solid performance at right-back in Saturday’s 5-1 win away to West Ham United, and looks a safe bet to deputise while the Gunners are without Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy.

The athletic Brazilian has featured in the Gunners’ last two Premier League games in the makeshift position, originally coming on against Bournemouth in late November for the injured Debuchy, and is now likely to be a regular until either player returns.

Gabriel out of favour with Arsene Wenger this season 0

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista had forced Per Mertesacker out of the starting lineup for a time last season, but the Brazilian centre-back is now enduring a similar treatment as the German international, having spent the 2016/17 campaign on the sidelines as a new signing forges a solid defensive partnership with Laurent Koscielny.

Gabriel has made just two appearances for Arsenal this season, playing 180 minutes in the EFL Cup. He’s been an unused substitute in the Premier League and Champions League on eight occasions in total. Having recovered from a malleolar injury earlier in the campaign, Gabriel is now waiting for opportunities to impress, but the South American defender is behind Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding in the pecking order.

Should Arsenal sell Per Mertesacker? 0

According Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann, the Bundesliga club are interested in re-signing former centre-back Per Mertesacker.

Baumann told German publication Bild: “In the course of Serge’s transfer, we also talked about his future (Mertesacker’s). I can see Per at Werder.”

Pushed down the pecking order

The 32-year-old former Germany international has been pushed down the pecking order at Arsenal by the arrival of Shkodran Mustafi. In fact, the giant centre-back is probably now regarded as the Gunners fourth choice centre-back.

Mustafi and Koscielny could be the key to Arsenal title bid 0

Arsenal fans were hoping for a new centre-back and a new striker in the summer transfer window. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger kept his powder dry until deadline day. The Frenchman then signed Shkodran Mustafi and striker Lucas Perez.

Lucas may take a while to adapt to his new surroundings, but Mustafi has already produced very positive signs that he has what it takes to be a top Premier League centre-back.

Why didn’t Mustafi arrive sooner?

EFL Cup a decent exercise for Arsenal this season 2

Arsenal produced a comfortable 4-0 win at Championship Nottingham Forest in the fourth round of EFL CUP on Tuesday night. Usual Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sacrifices the competition and heavily rotates his squad.

The French did exactly the same last night with the rotation, but unlike previous years it paid off and produced some positives to take from the night.

Lucas Perez made an impact

Summer arrival Lucas Perez really needed to make an impact in last night’s game. The Spaniard did just that by scoring a brace, producing an assist and looking like a constant threat to the Forest defence.

Arsenal reportedly interested in defensive duo 0

As another inquest commences on an opening weekend defeat for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger’s poor transfer policy, Sky Sports have decided to give Gunners fans to false hope that the club may actually try and sign a centre-back.

On Monday night, (yes, I know a bit late!) Sky was reporting that Arsenal were showing an interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Omer Toprak and Fenerbahce centre-back Simon Kjaer.

This comes after reports that Arsene Wenger is looking behind the back of his sofa for money to put towards a deal to sign Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi. I bet Wenger has lost the club wallet again.
