Giroud rescues a late point for Arsenal at Southampton 0

On Sunday afternoon, Arsenal needed an 88th-minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

The home side took the lead on three minutes. Per Mertesacker gives the ball away, Dusan Tadic beat the German defender before finding Charlie Austin, who kept himself onside and calmly beat Petr Cech.

The Saints came close to doubling their lead two minutes later, with Tadic and Austin combining once again. However, this time Cech produced a good save from Austin’s effort from a tight angle.

Austin struck the post on eight minutes from Nathan Redmond’s cross. The effort would not have counted anyway, as the referee’s assistant flagged the striker for offside.

Arsenal were held to a frustrating goalless draw against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, as Saints ‘keeper Fraser Forster pulled-off a string of brilliant saves to keep the scores level.

Southampton had the first attempt on goal after four minutes, as James Ward-Prowse’s whipped free-kick from the left evaded everybody, but was saved comfortable by Petr Cech in the Gunners goal.

The home side’s first effort on goal arrived on 11 minutes. Alexis Sanchez fires a superb 40 yard through ball to Mesut Ozil, who produces a sublime touch and in the same movement fires an effort at goal that is saved by the legs of Fraser Forster.

Arsenal left it late to claim three points against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, as Alexis Sanchez scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute.

The first effort of the goal came on seven minutes. Santi Cazorla put Danny Welbeck through on goal, only for the England striker to hit the side-netting with his effort, as he tried to round Fraser Forster.

The visitors had their first meaningful attack on 14 minutes. Graziano Pelle played a one-two with Steven Davis and the Italian striker fired high and wide with an effort when well placed. On 20 minutes Forster saved an Aaron Ramsey shot comfortably.

Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The game took a while to get going, but the first attempt on goal came from Saints midfielder Steven Davis, who saw an effort from the centre of the box saved by David Ospina.

On 12 minutes the Gunners had their first attempt on goal, as Tomas Rosicky’s header from inside the box was saved by Fraser Forster in the Southampton goal.
