Enjoying the international break 0

Posted on March 26, 2021 by Harry Kettle

Arsenal may have another week or so to go before they can get back to domestic action, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t try and enjoy the international break for what it is – a break.

The next few months are going to be crazy and after that, we’re going to bleed into the rescheduled UEFA Euro 2020 and Summer Olympics with barely any time to breathe before the 2021/22 season kicks in. That’s the definition of a loaded schedule and because of that, we all need to embrace the time off while we can.

It seems that Nicklas “Underpants” Bendtner has made enough headlines at the European Championships to interest many teams in taking him off Arsenal’s hands next season, which can only be good news for Arsene Wenger’s transfer kitty!

After six months in the wilderness of Sunderland he finally decided to knuckle down towards the end of the season and has now firmly put himself in the shop window with some eye-catching performances at the Euros (not to mention the underpants saga!) and his agent seems very confident that he will be finding a new club very soon.

Yann M’Vila – I have many options open and don’t know what will happen 7

The French midfielder Yann M’Vila is supposedly very close to agreeing a move to Arsenal this summer, but neither he nor the club are willing to even confirm there has been contact between the two sides, and now he is saying that he has “other options” which will not be affected by the Euro2012 tournament.

“My present at the moment is France,” M’Vila said yesterday. “After the Euros we will see what happens with my future. There are many options open and I still don’t know what will happen.

Van Persie’s not talking, but Andre Santos lets the cat out of the bag! 4

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has insisted that he does not want to let speculation regarding his future distract him from the task at hand at the Euros this month, while describing Juventus, one of the teams after his signature, as a ‘great team’.

Van Persie’s stellar season at the Emirates saw the Arsenal skipper find the net 37 times to help Arsenal end the season in third and qualify for the Champions League. However, despite experiencing great success on the personal front, the Dutchman has been disappointed at Arsenal’s dearth of trophies in recent years, and could be willing to force an exit from the North London club this summer, where he joined eight seasons ago.

Gareth Southgate Backs Oxlade-Chamberlain to Succeed for England 2

The ex-England defender Gareth Southgate is backing Arsenal’s very own Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to be a future star for club and country, and says that Roy Hodgson shares his optimism for the 18 year-old, which is why he is taking him to the Euros.

Southgate said: He said: “I’ve seen enough of Alex over the past 18 months with England Under-19s and Under-20s to know what a talent he is.

“It is a great opportunity for him – he is a confident boy.

“If he is asked to play I know he can have an impact on games and I am sure that is why Roy picked him for the squad.

Bendtner tells suitors to wait for Euros 2

The Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has confirmed that he is talking with other clubs and a move away from the Emirates is imminent.

The Danish striker spent his last season on loan to Sunderland, and he is not a part of Arsene Wenger’s plans for the future, so Bendtner is hoping to attract buyers at the Euros this summer.

There are several Arsenal players expected to leave the squad this summer, like Denilson, Squillaci and Djourou, as Arsene Wenger try to build a new team to tackle the title surge next season.

Abou Diaby out with a calf injury – misses rest of season and Euros 3

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the latest injury news concerning the Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby. We have gotten used to the big Frenchman being sidelined with his famous ankle problems that started with his horrific injury just after he arrived at Arsenal some six years ago.

On his many, many comebacks he has usually gone down with hamstring problems, and the player himself has admitted that he now has one ankle twice as big as the other, which is affecting his balance, but this time around he has suffered a “calf problem” whatever that means.

There has been much talk about Jack Wilshere possibly joining the Team GB at the Olympics after Stuart Pearce admitted that the Arsenal youngster was “on his shortlist”, but Arsene Wenger is very wary of setting Jack any targets that may not be met, therefore knocking his confidence back once again.

“He (Jack) makes slow progress and at the moment is still in our rehab centre,” Wenger said. “We take time, we are patient with him. He makes progress, but slow progress.
