Arsenal talking to Dimitri Payet representatives 1

Posted on January 18, 2017 by David Nugent

According to the Metro (yes, I know!), Arsenal have held talks with the representatives of West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet to establish if the French star would be interested in moving to the Emirates Stadium.

The same report suggests Manchester United have also made similar enquiries about Payet’s availability, although Payet moving to another Premier League club seems unlikely.

Payet is homesick in London

Payet being spotted in an Arsenal or United shirt anytime soon looks highly unlucky at the moment. The 29-year-old recently told West Ham that he wanted to leave and would not play for the Hammers again.

Tying down Mesut Ozil is vital for Arsenal 0

For the first half of last season German playmaker Mesut Ozil’s form was outstanding. His form dipped in the second half of the campaign, but he still managed to register an impressive 19 assists and six goals in the Premier League for the season.

The start to Ozil’s season was delayed due to an extended break after Euro 2016, but he scored in his first start of the campaign last time out against Watford.

Could Aaron Ramsey struggle for game time too? 1

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has recently join AFC Bournemouth on a season-long loan as a result of falling down the pecking order at Arsenal this campaign, but Gunners teammate Aaron Ramsey could well struggle for game time in the midfield given the stiff competition for places as well as his own poor fitness record.

The Welsh international enjoyed a fantastic Euro 2016 for his country, but has been in and out of the Arsenal side in the last 12 months. He’s found himself often forced out wide, and could find game time limited as things stand with the players currently ahead of him in the manager’s reckoning.

Jack Wilshere didn’t deserve a place in the England squad 0

England boss Sam Allardyce announced his Three Lions squad to face Slovakia on Sunday in a World Cup qualifier, with Allardyce’s side odds of evens to claim victory in the new boss’s first outing as national team boss.

There were a few surprises like Everton’s Ross Barkley, who has made a decent start to the campaign. One of the other surprise omissions was that of Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

Maybe it was not a surprise

Okay so maybe it should not have been such a surprise. The central midfielder has made just two substitute appearances for the Gunners this season, amounting to just 37 minutes in total of action.

Mustafi deal stalls as Valencia and Arsenal fail to agree on a fee 3

According to the Mirror, Arsenal’s pursuit for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi has hit an obstacle with the Gunners yet to match the asking price. The German centre-back is believed to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal, but the London outfit are still quarrelling with Valencia over price.

Reports from the Valencia camp suggest Arsenal are unrivalled in their pursuit for Mustafi, but just need to match Los Che’s valuation for the centre-back. Valencia are rumoured to be looking for €25M (£21.7M) which is a fair price for an international standard player regularly playing in the Spanish La Liga, but Arsenal have yet to meet the fee.

Aaron Ramsey anonymous in Sunday’s Liverpool defeat 1

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey left a lot to be desired in Sunday’s 4-3 defeat against Liverpool, leaving manager Arsene Wenger with a lot to ponder ahead of next Saturday’s trip to the King Power Stadium to face defending champions Leicester City. Arsenal are 6/4 to win against Leicester, but Ramsey’s place might be up for grabs given his ineffectual performance.

Hauled off after 60 minutes, the 25-year-old failed to create a chance for Arsenal, while making just 22 completed passes. He wasn’t too industrious at times either, making zero tackles and just one interception every 30 minutes on average, and perhaps is still struggling for fitness this summer as a result of so much football in the last few months.

Arsenal in talks over Mustafi move 0

Arsenal are in talks to sign Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi, according to Sky Germany via Sky Sports.

The Gunners have yet to submit a bid for the German defender, but reports claim he could be available for a fee of around £25.3million plus add-ons, which could total to a further £8.4million.

Mustafi has a minimum fee release clause of £42.1million in his Valencia contract, but Los Ches are unlikely to demand close to that fee for the defender because quite simply they need a cash injection following a poor campaign in La Liga.

Wilshere & Campbell return to pre-season training 0

Posted on July 17, 2016 by Crippy Cooke

Midfielder Jack Wilshere and winger Joel Campbell have both returned to pre-season training for Arsenal this summer after their excursions in the 2016 European Championships and Copa America Centenario respectively. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed his returning stars would be given up to four weeks off, but Wilshere and Campbell were eliminated early and therefore didn’t play the same amount of time

Should Arsenal make a move for Julian Draxler this summer? 1

Posted on July 14, 2016 by David Nugent

According to the Daily Mirror, are set to re-ignite their interest in Wolfsburg attacking midfielder Julian Draxler this summer. The Bundesliga club are reportedly ready to sell Draxler this summer after they failed to make the Champions League spots.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Draxler since his days at Schalke and it seems Gunners boss Arsene Wenger may be prepared to make another move for the attacking midfielder.

Draxler would be a costly signing

Wenger may be a great admirer of Draxler, but the spend-wise veteran French boss will not be a fan of the mooted fee of £55million. Draxler’s contract with the Wolves expires in 2020, as he only joined last summer.

Will Giroud really be given a three-week break after Euro 2016? 1

Posted on July 12, 2016 by Crippy Cooke

According to the Independent, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been given three week’s holiday after his Euro 2016 excursions, which leaves Chuba Akpom as the only natural centre-forward in the squad in pre-season. The likes of Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez have led the line in makeshift roles, but would manager Arsene Wenger really leave himself so short in attack?

Olivier Giroud played six games in this summer’s European Championship, scoring three goals and making two assists for the France national team, and was expected to be given time off to rest. However, three weeks away from the training camp would see him miss the start of the season, while lacking match fitness on his return.
