Martinez joins Getafe on loan 1

Posted on August 02, 2017 by Crippy Cooke

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has joined Spanish La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan, the Gunners have confirmed.

The Argentina shot-stopper looked set to become second-choice to Petr Cech with David Ospina linked with a move to Turkey. But the latter has made a U-turn and wants to stay, meaning Martinez has been loaned out for regular playing time.

Arsenal hammered at Crystal Palace 0

Arsenal’s hopes of securing Champions League football for next season took a heavy blow as they went down to a 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The home side had the first attempt on goal after just three minutes. A good team move eventually saw the ball fall for Yohan Cabaye, who got his shot horribly wrong and the Frenchman’s effort went wide of Emiliano Martinez’s goal.

It was Palace who offered the next threat on goal too, as midfielder Luka Milivojevic fired just wide of Martinez near post. The Gunners hit back on nine minutes. The ball fell to Mohamed Elneny who curled an effort towards the far corner of the net, only for Wayne Hennessey to produce a fantastic save.

Martinez could start against Lincoln with Ospina an injury doubt 0

Arsenal’s third-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could start between the sticks against Lincoln City in Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup quarter-final clash, with second-choice David Ospina an injury doubt. The Colombian international reportedly had a minor problem after the midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich and has exacerbated the issue since.

Martinez has been used sparingly this season, featuring only in the EFL Cup, so drafting him in would be a gamble. Despite Lincoln being a Conference side, they’ve shown they’re more than a most for any side in the FA Cup on their day, dispatching of the likes of Ipswich Town, Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley in the third round, fourth round and last-16 respectively.

David Ospina will not be a major miss for Arsenal 3

Reports have surfaced that Arsenal are set to hold talks with Besiktas over Colombian ‘keeper David Ospina or so Turkish news outlet Takvim claims anyway. Arsenal are believed to be looking for £3.5million for Ospina, but could sell the ‘keeper for less as he seeks first team football elsewhere.

He has been linked with a move to Turkish football before, but it seems he could now actually finally leave north London this summer.

No chance of first team football at Arsenal

Arsenal ‘keeper set join Wolves on-loan 0

Arsenal number three ‘keeper Emiliano Martinez looks set to join Championship side Wolves on a season-long loan deal. The 23-year-old is highly-rated by the north London club, but he is being sent out to gain valuable first team experience in the second tier of English football.

The youngster is unlikely to see much first team action at the Emirates with Czech Republic international Petr Cech and Colombian number one blocking his way to the number one jersey at Arsenal.

The competition was so fierce that even former-Gunners number one Wojciech Szczesny had to leave on a season-long loan deal in attempt to play regular football this season.

Arsenal linked with Italian ‘keeper 0

According to the Metro and Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are set to make a move for veteran Italian ‘keeper Marco Amelia.

The 33-year-old is currently plying his trade with AC Milan and told the media: ‘Arsenal? I signed a confidentiality agreement, so I cannot say anything,’

‘I’m still young for a goalie, I’m 33 years old and who knows in the future.’

The move would be a strange for Arsenal to make, as boss Arsene Wenger already has three international ‘keepers at his disposal in Petr Cech, David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny.

Does Arsenal really need another keeper this summer? 0

Posted on April 21, 2015 by David Nugent

The Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal will have to move fast to sign Chelsea keeper Petr Cech this summer. However, my question would be does Arsenal really need another keeper.

It is widely expected that Petr Cech will leave Stamford Bridge this summer for a fee mooted as £10million, after Belgium international Thibaut Courtois displaced him as Chelsea number one this season.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has always maintained he does not want the 32-year-old to leave the club, but Cech is likely to leave in search of more regular first team football for next season. Whether Mourinho would sanction the move to a team that could rival the Blues next season for the Premier League title remains to be seen.

Petr Cech admits that he is ready to leave Chelsea 0

Arsenal’s mooted transfer target Petr Cech has admitted that he is ready to leave Chelsea this summer, after spending this season as back-up to Belgian starlet Thibaut Courtois.

The Czech Republic international told the newspaper Idnes: “I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo,”

“But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this. There always will be speculation, I leave it for the summer,”

Arsenal looking more defensively sound 0

Posted on December 04, 2014 by David Nugent

Arsenal have been criticised for their defensive displays in recent seasons, but last night’s 1-0 victory over Southampton was the Gunners third game without conceding a goal. Despite a host of injury problems Arsenal are now on a three game winning run.

The return of French centre-back Laurent Koscielny has helped the Gunners keep clean sheets in their last two Premier League games. The defender had been badly missed, because the Gunners had such little defensive cover.

Spanish full-back Nacho Monreal had did a decent job considering he was played out-of-position in the heart of the Gunners defence. However, the Spaniard was never going to be the answer to Arsenal being solid defensively.

Arsenal claim win at West Brom to move into fourth 0

Posted on November 29, 2014 by David Nugent

Arsenal claimed a 1-0 win at West Brom in the early kick-off on Saturday. The only goal came from Danny Welbeck on the hour mark and the win moved the Gunners up to fourth place in the Premier League table.

The visitors had the first attempt on goal in the second minute, as Santi Cazorla’s effort from the edge of the area was straight at Ben Foster in the West Brom goal. On six minutes Alex Sanchez also shot straight at the England international, after Laurent Koscielny had set-up the break.
