Arsenal have recently been credited with interest in RB Salzurg’s Dominik Szoboszlai, as the midfielder continues to spark admiration around Europe with glittering performances both at club and international level. The links have grown much stronger since David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed he had been informed that the interest is genuine.

However, with all the attention the 20-year-old Hungarian has been getting lately, bringing him to the Emirates was never going to be an easy task. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on the situation, it has been reported, as are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and AC Milan. And now, according to Football Insider, RB Leipzig are about to enter the race as well.

Arsenal made some excellent acquisitions in the transfer market this summer, most notably defensive midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid and centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille OSC. However, manager Mikel Arteta obviously wanted an attacking midfielder brought in as well, but the club reportedly failed to reach an agreement with Olympique Lyon for Houssem Aouar and the boss’s wish remains to be hopefully fulfilled in one of the next two windows.

It has been a significant summer this year in terms of incoming transfers at Arsenal. The Gunners obtained the services of defender Gabriel Magalhaes, defensive midfielder Thomas Partey, winger Willian and replaced the departed Emiliano Martinez with Runar Alex Runarsson as the number two goalkeeper. They also extended the loan of midfielder Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid by another year, as well as the contract of defender David Luiz, and turned the previous loan spells of defenders Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares into permanent ones. But perhaps the most impotant piece of business of all was captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing a new contract. Arsenal reportedly made a late effort to bring in Houssem Aouar from Olympique Lyon, but that did not come through.

Arsenal are reportedly on the long list of clubs keeping a close eye of RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

Having gone through the ranks at Videoton and MTK in his homeland of Hungary, Szoboszlai moved to Austria in 2017 to join the ranks of Salzburg’s Under-18 side. He spent the following season on loan at FC Liefering and returned to Salzburg in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has gone on to represent the reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions on 74 occasions in all competitions, directly contributing to 55 goals (22 goals, 33 assists) so far. This season, he has five goals and nine assists in 13 games at the moment. A fast wide player, the 20-year-old is mostly deployed on the left side of midfield, though he can play more centrally if need be, as well as on the right. He has also played as a wide forward. Packing a truly formidable shot, he is a fantastic set-piece taker.
