The transfer of Denis Suarez from Barcelona to Arsenal is one step closer after the two clubs held talks with a positive outcome, the Mirror have reported.

Manager Unai Emery is extremely keen on Suarez coming to the Emirates this month. However, the manager is still facing several difficult circumstances in which the deal needs to be completed.

According to the Mirror, Denis Suarez has informed Barcelona that he would like to move to Arsenal this month.

The attacking midfielder, well capable of performing well on either flank or through the middle, had reportedly been told by his current club back in December to start searching for a new club, as they had no place for him in their team. The report sparked interest in his services from clubs around Europe, and it was immediately clear he’d have no shortage of offers. Now it seems he has chosen Arsenal as his preferred destination, and he wants the switch to happen now, rather than in the summer.

As one of my colleagues wrote earlier, Arsenal are reportedly close to completing the £14million signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. The Spaniard has struggled for first-team minutes in the Catalan capital.

No shame in failing to make it at Barcelona

Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs to world football, both in profile and their success on the pitch. Along with Spanish rivals Real Madrid, they are a step ahead of the big clubs in other countries.

As such, they tend to sign whatever player want. A case in point was the Catalan giants signing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool, despite the Reds resisting their overtures for a short while.

Arsenal close to signing Denis Suarez 0

Arsenal are very close to agreeing a deal to sign Denis Suarez from Barcelona, according to Sky Sports.

Suarez will have some experience of living and playing in England as his first professional contract was with Manchester City back in 2011. However, he only appeared twice for the current Premier League title holders, once in the FA Cup and the League Cup each, before moving to Barcelona in 2013. There, he initially played for their “B” side and made 36 appearances and scored seven goals. In the deal which saw Ivan Rakitić join the Catalan giants in 2014, Suarez was sent on a two-year loan to Sevilla, where he worked with current Arsenal boss Unai Emery and won the Europa League with him.

Disciplinary issues

UEFA have officially opened disciplinary proceedings against Arsenal following their 1-0 Europa League win over Qarabag, the European football governing organization has confirmed. The only goal of the game was scored by Alexandre Lacazette in the 16th minute of the match, as a rotated line-up saw out the group stage with qualification guaranteed beforehand.

A statement on the UEFA official website says:

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Europa League group stage match between Arsenal FC and Qarabağ FK (1-0), played on 13 December in England.
