According to Arsenal hero Paul Merson, Arsenal should have made a move for now-Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater in the summer. The England international joined Premier League champions signed Drinkwater for £35million from Leicester on deadline day.

Merse in his column in the Daily Star wrote, “Arsenal should have bid for Danny Drinkwater rather than let him go to Chelsea. At least he will fight for you. This lot just give up.

“In my day, the dressing room after a performance like that would have been a war zone. You would have had to call the police because there would have been fights everywhere.”

The next effort on goal did come until 25 minutes when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cut in from the wing and curled an effort just past Kasper Schmeichel’s far post.
