The Premier League season is underway, and while every single game is going to count for the Gunners, there’s no way of getting around it: they need to have a strong run of form at home if they want to be successful. They’ve struggled away from the Emirates for a few years now, whereas their ability to get the job done at home has consistently gotten them out of jail more times than we can count.
There are a lot of times with Arsenal Football Club where it’s hard to keep up with proceedings – and even that may be an understatement. One minute we’re led to believe that things are going in on direction, and then the next, there’s a report out there that indicates the exact opposite. It’s because of this that we try not to get too excited about what’s to come, because there is often a sting in the tail waiting around the next corner.
Arsenal reportedly submitted a £40 million bid for Wilfried Zaha a few days ago, only to have it laughed off by Crystal Palace. The Eagles are apparently demanding double that amount for their prized winger.
Zaha was reported to have informed his club of his wish to leave, and he is apparently keen on a move to the Emirates as he used to support the Gunners as a kid. On the other hand, reports also claimed Arsenal transfer funds for this summer wouldn’t go over the £45 million mark in total, which would make prizing Zaha away from Palace mission impossible.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Wilfried Zaha has been well documented over the course of the last few weeks, with things really start to pick up in the last few days. The Ivory Coast international is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations, but even with that being the case, it hasn’t stopped him from being in all of the headlines back in Europe.
Wilfried Zaha has apparently pleaded with Crystal Palace to let him join Arsenal this summer. That’s according to Daily Mail, who also claim Zaha had supported the Gunners while growing up.
The Eagles are already set to lose Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has reportedly passed the medical ahead of a move to Manchester United, and they are apparently very reluctant to see both the fullback and Zaha go. The transfer of Wan-Bissaka to Old Trafford will bring them around £50 million, and they have slapped an £80 million price tag on Zaha.
“Arsenal boss Unai Emery has requested extra funds from his board to sign Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha this summer. The Gunners’ failure to qualify for the Champions League for a third successive season means Emery has been given just £45million to spend this summer. The Spaniard has been told he can top-up that budget through player sales and he’s considering offloading Mesut Ozil to raise funds. Zaha, 26, has made it clear to Palace he wants to leave this summer though he hoped to join a club in the Champions League.”
There are question marks regarding who Arsenal are going to end up signing during the summer transfer window, and rightly so. The Gunners are coming off the back of an exceptionally disappointing season, and there’s really no other way of getting around that. They lost in the Europa League final to rivals Chelsea and failed to break into the top four, meaning Champions League football is out of the question. That’s just a fact.
The transfer rumours have been flying around left, right and center over the course of the last few days in the wake of the summer transfer window officially opening. Now that the window is open, as you can imagine, there will be a series of different rumours with much, much speculation regarding who is going to be going where. Arsenal aren’t going to be immune from all of that, and hopefully, they’re going to wind up being busier than most in the window itself.
According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are willing to use Calum Chambers, Reiss Nelson and Carl Jenkinson as makeweights in a deal to sign Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha. Reports suggest that the Ivory Coast international is rated in the £80million bracket.
The purse strings are set to be tight again at Arsenal this summer, so using players as a makeweight may prove to be the answer for the Gunners.
Zaha would be a good signing for Arsenal
The Gunners are reportedly looking to bring in a wide man this summer. Zaha is developing into a very dangerous attacking player and has been the focal point of the Eagles attack for much of the season.
West Ham 1-0 Arsenal
Just pitiful. There was no real fight and no real desire, to the point where we were left to wonder whether or not these players even want to secure Champions League football in the first place. The Hammers were a decent side this season but their aspirations weren’t nearly as high as Arsenal’s, and worse yet, the game so quickly after the half time interval. They just seemed to switch off and when you do that at such a high level like this, you’re obviously going to be punished.
