On Friday afternoon, one of the World Cup favourites Brazil faces Costa Rica in their second Group E game, as the Selecao look to get back to winning ways in Russia. Their opponents cannot afford defeat or could face an exit from the competition.

Brazil dazzled in the early stages of their opener against Switzerland. However, the Selecao dropped the pace and the game ended 1-1 after a highly disciplined performance from the European side.

Does Joel Campbell still have a role to play at Arsenal? 2

It seems that Costa Rica international forward Joel Campbell is returning to England and Arsenal. The Winger could be sidelined for up to six months through a knee injury picked up while away with his national side.

The injury has prevented the 25-year-old leaving the club this summer, with his contract expiring next summer. Now some Arsenal fans are talking about Campbell as if he could save their season. The scenario seems far-fetched, but it does beggar the question could he have a role to play at Arsenal this season?

Arsenal winger Joel Campbell has picked up a serious knee injury while on international duty with Costa Rica and will miss the remainder of the Gold Cup this summer. “We will see what the doctors say, but it is a pretty big tear and I will have to undergo an operation,” said the 25-year-old, reports Goal.

Campbell picked up the injury against Canada on Tuesday and will now be undergoing surgery, with rumours that he’ll be sidelined for six months. Costa Rica’s chances of winning the competition will be hampered due to his absence but the Arsenal man will now be worried about his club future.

Joel Campbell could be staying at the Emirates Stadium 0

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has been linked to a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer, but it appears that manager Arsene Wenger is happy to retain his services for the upcoming season. The 24-year-old provided symmetry to the Arsenal attack in 2015/16, but lost his place to Jack Wilshere and Alex Iwobi which has since poured doubt on his future with the Gunners.

Campbell scored and created a goal every 177 minutes in the Premier League last season, and fit the system well given his penchant to cut inside on his stronger left-foot from the right flank. Campbell’s movement freed up space for right-back Hector Bellerin to attack and provide the width, but the Costa Rican international made just 11 starts in the end.

Wilshere & Campbell return to pre-season training 0

Midfielder Jack Wilshere and winger Joel Campbell have both returned to pre-season training for Arsenal this summer after their excursions in the 2016 European Championships and Copa America Centenario respectively. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed his returning stars would be given up to four weeks off, but Wilshere and Campbell were eliminated early and therefore didn’t play the same amount of time

Why is Arsene Wenger overlooking Joel Campbell this season? 5

Arsenal have been short of goals in the Premier League this season, and manager Arsene Wenger seems unsure who he wants to spearhead the attack early on, so questions are being asked why Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell continues to be on the periphery. The 23-year-old recently represented his country in a friendly against Brazil, but cannot get game time for his club.

The Londoners have averaged less than a goal a game in the Premier League, with strikers Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud having netted just once between this season. Campbell was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s last game against Newcastle, but hadn’t even made the match day squad in the side’s first three league outings.

Besiktas in bid for Arsenal’s out-of-favour Joel Campbell this summer 0

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell is reportedly a target for Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas this summer, with the Costa Rican international looking for regular first-team football after being on the periphery for so many years with the Gunners. A £3.5M fee has been agreed by the two parties, and Campbell now has to agree personal terms.

Manager Arsene Wenger is alleged to have given his blessing for the youngster to leave, as he doesn’t have Campbell in his plans for next season due to stiff competition from the likes of Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott. He spent the 23-year-old out on loan to Spanish La Liga side Villarreal last season, but he failed to impress in his 20 appearances, scoring just once.

Joel Campbell to be show the exit door by Arsenal this summer 0

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell could well be exiting the Emirates this summer, with the Costa Rica international deemed surplus to requirements by manager Arsene Wenger.

Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad and Turkish club Fenerbahce have been linked with his signature in recent weeks, and it doesn’t appear he will return to the Emirates ahead of the 2015/16 campaign. He may, however, remain in the Premier League, with a host of sides interested in his services.

Out-of-favour Joel Campbell dismisses Arsenal exit rumours 0

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has dismissed rumours linking him with a January exit from Arsenal. The Costa Rica international, 22, has made just two Premier League appearances this season, amassing only 39 minutes of football in the top-flight.

Despite the lack of action, Campbell has played down exit talk on his personal website.

“What they have been saying is not true, I’m very calm. I have not been furious. Obviously, yes, I would like to be playing, but that’s something that has to be earned day by day. I have to keep training and waiting for the opportunity, I know it’s a very competitive team,” he said.

Why does Joel Campbell continue to be overlooked? 5

Posted on September 18, 2014 by Crippy Cooke

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has played just 21 minutes of football in the senior team this season, despite manager Arsene Wenger previously revealing that the 22-year-old would play a key role in the side.

Campbell impressed during his loan spell with Olympiacos last season, and was outstanding for Costa Rica in this summer’s World Cup. His form for club and country led to him being recalled to the Arsenal first-team as an attacking option in case of injury to Olivier Giroud. But Campbell is low down in the pecking order, and can’t seem to get a game this season.
