White medical set for Wednesday 0

Posted on July 26, 2021 by Veselin Trajkovic

The saga surrounding the long-awaited arrival of Ben White appears to be coming to a close. The defender is set to undergo his medical with Arsenal ahead of the proposed transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday, according to multiple sources.

Released by Southampton in 2014, the 23-year-old thoroughly paid his dues over the following years. He joined Brighton’s Under-18 side and plied his trade on loans for a while, playing for Newport County and Peterborough. He finally broke through by playing a big part in Leeds United’s promotion-winning season in 2019-20, at the end of which the interest in his services went notably up. Leeds made a strong attempt to keep him on a permanent basis, but Brighton rejected their advances.

There is plenty going on at Arsenal concerning transfers at the moment. The club have already confirmed the signings of left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, and are reportedly working on several other deals at the moment. There are also things happening regarding players who could leave the Emirates, and Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has provided updates on several accounts.

£50m for Ben White – too much? 0

Arsenal’s defence has been criticized very much over the last decade, and it was the belief of many that the club wouldn’t be winning the league, or anything other than the domestic cups, until they get the back line sorted.

However, recent numbers tell a different story. In 2020-21, Arsenal conceded just 39 goals in the Premier League; only champions Manchester City (32) and fourth-place Chelsea (36) conceded less. Manchester United, who finished second, conceded 44, Liverpool in third 42, and Leicester City in fifth 50. It is, in fact, at the other end of the pitch where the Gunners struggled last season. You’d have to go down to 10th-place Everton for a first team to have scored fewer than Arsenal’s 55 goals.

Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Brighton and Hove Albion over the proposed transfer of Ben White, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. There was a similar report earlier this month, which came from, but now the claim has come from a much more reliable source in Ornstein and has been relayed by other outlets, including the likes of Sky Sports and the BBC, as well.

Arsenal are still in pole position to sign Ben White from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer, despite Manchester City also registering an interest in the young defender, according to

The Seagulls are aware of their inability to keep their best players at the Amex forever, and they’re resigned to selling White if they have to, but only for the right price. That price has always been £50 million, and it is not to be wondered at that the Gunners saw their first offer of £40m rejected.

Everton move to spoil Arsenal’s White pursuit 0

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ben White for a long time now, and even though several other clubs had been credited with interest in the 23-year-old defender, there were no approaches from anyone but Arsenal.

That seems to have changed now, with the Daily Mail reporting that Everton have been registered as late entrants in the race. Apparently, the Merseyside Blues, having completed the controversial appointment of former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, have held talks with the Seagulls about the possibility of signing White themselves. Further more, Everton are allegedly willing to offer more money than Arsenal have for his services. Manchester City have lately been mentioned as well, with the future of Aymeric Laporte reportedly uncertain due to the Spain international falling behind John Stones and Ruben Dias in the pecking order under Pep Guardiola, and their financial power is obviously second to none in the Premier League.

Transfers: Lokonga, White, Tavares, Onana, Xhaka, Guendouzi 0

Having had the first one rejected, Arsenal have submitted a second bid for Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, according to Fabrizio Romano. The bid for the player who turns 22 in October now stands at €17.5 million (around £15m), with add-ons, potentially rising to €4m, to come on top of that. It represents a notable increase on the original proposal which the Belgian side rejected, believed to have been worth €15m in total.

The Gunners have been very active in pursuing their transfer targets this summer, it seems. Apart from Lokonga, they’re reportedly pushing to sign Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White, for whom they saw the opening bid of £40m turned down. The talks between the two clubs are still ongoing.

Mavropanos rejoins Stuttgart on loan 0

Having joined Arsenal in January 2018 from Greek side PAS Giannina, Dinos Mavropanos has so far made only eight appearances for the club in all competitions. Injuries have very much been a part of his stint at the Emirates, preventing him from showing his quality under any of the three managers in charge of the team since.

Two years after his arrival, Mavropanos finally recovered from a succession of groin problems and joined FC Nurnberg on loan for the second half of 2019-20. Mikel Arteta had no place for him in his plans the following summer, so he spent 2020-21 in Germany as well, this time playing for Stuttgart on a season-long loan and making a total of 22 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Arsenal closing in on Ben White deal 0

Posted on June 24, 2021 by Veselin Trajkovic

Arsenal are getting closer to agreeing a deal with Brighton and Hove Albion for the proposed signing of Ben White, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. The transfer being discussed will see the Gunners fork out £50 million for the services of the 23-year-old defender.

The first offer Arsenal had sent Brighton’s way was rejected, but it was reported straight away that the talks between the two clubs would continue. They have, face-to-face between all parties involved, and a deal is now not far off. The only difference between what Arsenal are offering and what Brighton are demanding at this point is the structure of the payment. The Gunners are proposing £45m upfront with £5m to come potentially through add-ons, while the Seagulls want the whole amount to be guaranteed. Personal terms between Arsenal and White are not thought to be a problem.

It seems to have been a busy day as far as Arsenal’s dealings in the summer transfer markets are concerned, with with red lights shining at every crossroad for the moment. According to different sources, the Gunners rejected an offer from Aston Villa for Emile Smith Rowe, and saw their own bids for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White and Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga turned down.
