Do Arsenal need a striker? 2

Posted on December 31, 2013 by Crippy Cooke

Much is made about Arsenal’s title challenge this season, but the general consensus is the side will need a genuine top striker if they are to sweep home the Premier League title.

Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has been linked with the side, but manager Arsene Wenger hasn’t dropping the slightest hint he’d make an official bid for the out-of-form striker.

Athletico Madrid striker Diego Costa is another name who continues to make the gossip list for potential transfer to Arsenal in the January transfer window. However, the La Liga hitman has shown no desire to leave his side – especially considering how well they’re doing in the league.

With the news Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has signed a new long term deal with the club, it’s likely manager Arsene Wenger will give up on his chase for the player.

Suarez, 26, was subject to a £40,000,001 bid from Arsenal in the summer, but Liverpool rejected the ’derisory’ offer, and reiterated how the Uruguayan international wasn’t for sale despite him having handed in a transfer request. Since then, he’s set the Premier League alight with 17 goals in 11 games.

So who could Arsenal get in the last-16? 0

After a 2-0 defeat to Napoli in their final Champions League group game last night, the result meant Arsenal scraped second-place and will now be dealt a tough draw in the last-16. But who could the Gunners be paired with when the Champions League draw is made?

Real Madrid

Last season’s semi-finalists finished as comfortable Group B winners this campaign. The Spaniards amassed 16 points from a possible 18, scoring 20 goals in the process. Forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been on fire, scoring a record nine group game goals, and as a result he’s the leading scorer in this season’s tournament. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Athletico Madrid in bid to sign Santi Cazorla 6

La Liga side Athletico Madrid are reported to have made a £17M bid to sign Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla.

The 28-year old was previously a target for Madrid while he was at Malaga, but the side couldn’t afford his asking price. Having sold top goal-scorer and Colombian international Radamel Falcao to Ligue One side AS Monaco for £50M, Athletico Madrid now have the money to step up their interest in the Spanish international.

Cazorla enjoyed a successful debut season with the Gunners – scoring a reported 12 goals and making 13 assists in 38 league games this season. He was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season 2012/13.
